Spider Man is getting a sidekick...... COLBERT!!!
http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv/2008/09/30/2008-09-30_stephen_colbert_makes_for_an_unlikely_sp.html

The host of Comedy Central's "Colbert Report" guest-stars in an issue of Marvel Comics' "The Amazing Spider-Man," in stores on Oct. 15.

And while his satirical, real-life attempt to get on the ballots of the South Carolina Democratic and Republican primaries fizzled, Colbert has enjoyed success as a major candidate in the comic company's fictional presidential campaign.

"In a universe where a guy can get super powers from a spider bite, then it makes complete logical sense that Stephen Colbert could be a viable candidate," said Mark Waid, one of the writers on the storyline.

"As he'll be the first to tell you, Stephen Colbert is a true American hero," said Quesada, a frequent guest on Colbert's show.

For the past eight months, "Colbert 2008 (And So Can You)" billboards and T-shirts were drawn into the backgrounds of panels in the company's comic books as Easter eggs for sharp-eyed fans.

HAHAHAHA, fool! The only way The Colbert can be killed is by several dozen vicious bears.

Vicious lady bears.

Thanks for posting that - it's just the giggle I needed today. :)

4. Unfortunately, that would require a crossover
Spiderman is Marvel and Lex Luthor/Darkseid are DC. :)

3. Colbert is a closet geek
From various things I've read, on one Daily Show, Viggo Mortensen (Aragon in the LOTR movies) gave Jon Stewart a set of chocolate LOTR characters to give to Colbert (who was absent that day), and Stewart told him that Colbert would likely orgasm over them. When Captain America was killed in the comics, Quesada sent Colbert Cap's shield. He put it on his arm, tapped it and said something like, "That's the sound of pure Wakandan Vibranium right there." Colbert is steeped in geek lore.

6. Yes he is
When Viggo was on the Daily Show Stewart asked some question that clearly were from an old time LOTR fan. I am not one but my brother is.

Colbert apparently knows Shakespeare by heart as well as the Bible.

I read an interview in which he said that when his father and a brother died in a plane crash when Stephen was 10 he went into his room and read a book a day.

The Cap shield is prominently displayed over his shoulder when he turns to the side camera.

I loved when the Ambassador of Hungary was on his show. Even though Colbert got his viewers to flood an on-line bridge naming contest with his name the Hungarians were not going to really do that so the Ambassador came on and amongst other things gave him a passport. Colbert just stared at it and said "I have a Hungarian passport" clearly stunned.

In a word "Lincolnish"

7. Less closeted than of old.
I knew him in his first years of college, and never found out that he had been a D&Der--even when he roomed with one of my childhood friends (and fellow dice-roller).

as his sidekick.
