Best albums of 2008 thus far
Just curious what people here at DU are listening to this year. My favorites so far have been, in no particular order,
S/T - This Will Destroy You
S/T - Secret Machines
Dear Science, - TV on the Radio
Keep Color - Republic Tigers
Third - Portishead
Can't seem to make myself listen to the new Mogwai album . . . maybe I'll like it, maybe I won't?

1. Rock band?
Heh... I am afraid after the 80's my current music knowledge consists of whatever I have played with my son on "rock band" and "rock band 2". My character ZZPOP just played Lead Guitar on some smashing pumpkins songs.

And now I think I need to go out and buy some albums (ok ok CD's). This generations music has some real talent and I have been missing out. Gimme a tip on what a almost 50's guy should try.

2. Buy music?

I feel so bad, but as a poor grad student I've learned the joy of torrents.

I'm not a huge fan of the 80's. I like some Tears for Fears, Depeche Mode, and then some of the later 80's stuff like Dinosaur Jr and Sonic Youth, which are really more early-90s. What do you usually like listening to?

4. Yeah... I pay the artist.
My music taste is pretty eclectic. From Jonathon Coulton, who is awesomely strange and has free songs to listen to(http://www.jonathancoulton.com/store/downloads/) to Pink floyd (I loved the wall album), Blue oyster cult.

Waitaminute! am I still stuck in the 70's? You have to understand my musical education came from my scratchy car radio. I can only plead ignorance.

I actually enjoyed "creep" and some band called "hammerfall" whan I was playing rock band. I really enjoyed quite a lot of the rock band selection.

6. Have to say my fave Floyd album was Meddle
Hmmm, maybe try an album from the Black Keys? They remind me a lot of Hendrix. I was stuck in the 70s all through high school, even though I went to hs in the late 90's. Popular music has really gone downhill.

5. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds: Dig Lazurus, Dig!
Possibly his best album ever.

7. I love Tom Waits
but I've had a harder time with Nick Cave. Might try this album, though.
