RW talkingpoint on U.S. Attorney firings
I apologize for not being up to speed with the RW talkingpoints on this but my wife said she heard that the RW'ers are saying, specifically O'Liely, that Janet Reno removed all 93 attorneys.

Can some of you help me out with this info?
I have a feeling some RW'ers I know will be bombarding me soon with this.

1. At the beginning of his first term, Clinton admin did remove all 93
but that is not abnormal, especially since they were republican appointees, the wingers are grasping at straws!

4. Just as blivet41 did with Reagan's
In fact, they had to ask them all to resign because they thought that blivet41 would just let them stay, since he was VP for Reagan and all. It took blivet41 two years to replace them all. bill took them all out, replaced them, and then let them stay during his second term too.

3. W replaced all 93 attorneys in 2000
What he's done now is to fire his own appointed attorneys because they weren't "right" enough. He will be facing obstruction of justice charges.

5. Exactly. This is how to respond to the talking points--
not "right" enough.

7. Maybe I should have said they weren't "Rovian" enough
Since one of Karl's buds is a replacement.

6. And don't miss the fact that
they fully intended to ignore the objections of the Senators from those states. The term they used was "run out the clock" so that their objections would be moot because it would be too disruptive to replace them after they had been seated as an "interim".

They were going to fuck their own guys without a second thought.

12. Even more basic
what happened to honor among thieves? If the repubs in the Senate aren't pissed by this admission, then they truly are bots, nothing more, nothing less. No one likes being marginalized ... especially by your own teammates.

8. Janet Reno didn't fire her own side's attorneys midway through Clinton's second term
It's normal for a president to fire all the attorneys from the previous president's administration upon taking office. That way, the president can appoint new attorneys who will supposedly represent that party's point of view. HOWEVER (and this is the key point), once the U.S. attorneys are sworn into office, they are legally obligated to prosecute all cases equally.

In this case, bushco fired eight U.S. attorneys midway through the chimp's second term because those attorneys either refused to prosecute groundless cases against Democrats, or refused to drop important cases against Republicans (including Cunningham).

This is highly unethical and illegal. Clinton did nothing like this.

10. And why obstruction of justice charges now apply.
Bush/Rove crossed the line.

11. Clinton had to get Senate confimation for his 93 attorney changes.
Edited on Thu Mar-15-07 11:19 PM by roamer65
* used a slimy clause they sneaked into the un-Patriot-ic Act, to get around Senate confirmation. The used the firings to get around Senate approval, as the clause allows the president (via the AG) to make direct appointments upon vacancies. Bush created the "vacancies" to fill them with cronies. Clinton did NOT circumvent the process.

13. I am 46, and I swear to God, on my death bed the RW'ers will be
saying, "Clinton did it too!". They are just so pathetic, I think the Republics (general population) are played out on that excuse.

14. It's funny how they only go as far back as Clinton.
They all did it. They know what Bush did was different!
