Read in a biography of John Wayne that George Wallace asked him to be VP in 1968!

Read in a biography of John Wayne that George Wallace asked him to be VP in 1968!
Wayne was in Colorado filming "True Grit" at the time and he gets a call from George Wallace who asked him to join his American Independent Ticket as his running mate. Wayne tells him, "I'm not Ronnie Reagan, I might actually yet win an Oscar."

(note: Wayne did win the Oscar for "True Grit")

One of the few VP candidates in recent history that is comparable to Palin in kookiness. Considering Dan Quayle, that's saying a lot.

5. I'm not surprised. In Kitty Kelly's bio of RR, JW went to the Reagan's dinner
party the week-end of JFK's funeral while the rest of the country was mourning his death.
