1. They realize we are pissed and are going to throw their GOP servants to the curb.
They hope we will forget it and move on if they lower the price of gas.

2. Last week it was only $87 per barrel of crude...

IMO it means bad times. No demand for oil due to less traveling (pleasure and business trips), less people in the road, people and businesses using less electricity or turning off AC units etc.

3. Yeah, me too. Market manipulation?
Is it because we're using less? Or because it should not have been as high as it was in the first place?

4. I knew they would arrange this just in time!
Only thing is, it could fall to 2.00 and we still wouldn't vote for the assholes!

5. obviously trying to buy votes for McCain and the Repubs.... if gas costs less the economy is $trong
after all

:eyes:

the fact is that the economy has tanked at a very inconvenient moment for McCain. So Shrub and his big oil buddies are trying to help out

8. Remember the commodities speculators denying that the price of crude was being manipulated?
Edited on Sun Oct-12-08 04:34 PM by tjwash
Stock market crashes...people panic and pull their money out...crude oil prices fell. Even with Ike slamming into Houston and damaging a refinery and pipeline.

Go figure.

10. It means
the economy is getting ready to get even sh*ttier here in used to be oil country red state hell. Many of the oil jobs have already left and gone to Houston or the gulf area. But with prices up the royalty owners have been doing well. Many of the fields that hadn't been pumped in years were being worked. With prices going down those royalty checks will cease and those fields will no longer be pumped.

Seriously, the drop in gas prices is not the result of any single factor but of a combination of things. There have been financial troubles in companies that trade in energy futures (SemGroup comes to mind), demand is down if only slightly, the dollar has strengthened relative to other currencies (and West Texas crude is priced worldwide in dollars), gasoline production has largely shifted away from many of the more ozone friendly blends that are required in certain areas of the country during summer months (and which increase production costs), hurricane season is coming to an end.

Personally, I'm glad I opted not to lock in those natural gas prices at the rates that were calculated and offered during late summer. I think that would have been a losing bet this year.

I was going to repond to an offer I got in the mail to do this with my gas company.

why is it not a good idea??

13. It might be a good idea where you are
My natural gas company made its calculations and extended its offer when energy prices were rising to new heights by the day. The lock in rate they offered was nearly 40% above last years lock in rate offer.

Your mileage may vary.

15. I've noted that, too, around here, and
while not really too prone to don the tinfoil hat, I'm more than a bit suspicious of the timing. Seems just a tad bit too convenient, doesn't it?

16. It's not anything sinister
gas prices typically rise in the late spring and summer and drop after vacation season when usage goes down. Simple matter of supply and demand. And our elections just happen to fall around one of the low points of that cycle.

21. Yep, because that doesn't explain why
every time a new tax is added to gasoline, the price increases by the same amount of the new tax the day before it is implemented.
