Pittsburg and rural Johnston City native Drew Hammill's involvement in politics has taken him pretty high up in the government food chain.

He started off campaigning for Glenn Poshard in college and is now the press secretary for Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. Hammill has worked with Pelosi for the past two years and has been on board to weather through major events, including the recent economic crisis and the bailout plan.

<snip>

Hammill said the climate in Washington is heavily focused on the economy and the presidential election. He has been able to meet Sen. Barack Obama, but has not been formally introduced to Sen. John McCain. Hammill is expectedly hoping for an Obama presidency.

No matter what happens in November, Hammill said he has enjoyed working for Pelosi and is pleased he could be a part of her historical career.

Johnston City is a small town of 3,557 (2000 census) in southern Illinois and not too far from where I am at. This was also the home for Minnisota Fats, the late great famous pool player.
