Oh DU Why Hath You Failed Me? (Rachel Maddow on Leno?)
OK folks where was my TiVo alert? Did I miss it?

I only saw when watching TRMS this morning that she was in LA because she was going to BE ON JAY LENO!!!???!!!

My favorite ever Rhodes scholar liberal lesbian on Leno?

I can't find the video anywhere, not even at NBC's site. Apparently she's not a big enough name that they put up her segment on Leno's highlights.

Does anyone have Rachel on Leno? How did she do?

I'm so proud of her. Don't know the woman from Adam, but having followed her since her early days on AAR, I feel like her success is just wonderful. I couldn't be happier.

5. Faster than the usual banter of Leno, in big glasses, she was Rachel...
We're more used to the 'in your face to the camera' Rachel, with those unadorned, expressive eyes. Answered Jay's questions with what is liberal and conservative anymore (liberals fondness for Eisenhower building roads), how slime often does stick (that the attacker is usually forgotten, in answer to the McCain tactics), enjoys the smart debate of arguments (like with Pat), how if you believe that campaigns can affect the results or if outside forces affect the results (like the economy, and in answer to McCain taking lead).

She corrected him to say her point of view show, rather than liberal bias.

I hope people will want to tune in, but I don't remember if times were given? Wonder if the ratings have been holding up to the dramatic debut.

6. Thank you for the recap!
Yeah, I've seen her in those glasses. They definitely "doll" her up a bit for the cameras. Awesome recap, I have a good visual now, thanks!

7. There were a couple of threads last night.

The problem was, no one knew. I only first heard about it watching Olbermann last night, so there wasn't a lot of time to get the word out.

Here's what I said last night:

"Ouch. Those glasses.

Not a good look. Going shopping, to the post office, fine. On a national television stage, no. What came out of her mouth was great, but the audience might as well have been in a coma, not a peep."

Someone said in that thread she didn't want to be recognized, so she wore the glasses. Huh? You go on Leno to be recognized. She said of being on TV, "if you're going to be on TV, you might as well play to win." First impressions make a difference, superficial or not, that's how they judge you. Those glasses may be cool in hipster subgroups, but when introducing yourself to middle America, that's not how they interpret it, and it's not playing to win. Hopefully, if there is a next time, she won't be so self-conscious.
