Wall Street, Main Street and Las Vegas
Edited on Thu Oct-09-08 03:58 PM by Cyrano
Most of us really don't understand Wall Street.

So let me ask you this: Would you take a little, some, or all of your money, walk into a casino where you didn't know the rules, and start playing?

That may seem like a strange analogy, but to my way of thinking, there is virtually no difference between Wall Street and Las Vegas.

I have never owned a stock in my life because I knew what I didn't know. And I was not about to spend one cent on something of which I was totally ignorant.

But there was one fact I always grasped. There is no difference between Wall Street and a Las Vegas casino. Whether you personally win or lose in the short run, the house always wins in the long run.

And for anyone who disagrees with me, you're going to have to explain to me why it is that much of Wall Street will get bailed out of the mess we're currently in, but you won't.

To put it as simply and crudely as possible, the world is made up of fuckors and fuckees. The vast majority of us are fuckees and, in most cases (gas prices, food prices, etc.) there's very little we can do about it. But there are two things we can all do: avoid Wall Street and casinos.

1. Except, Vegas casinos are fairly heavily regulated compared to
wall st.

In the early days, casino owners wanted to keep the federal gov't out of NV and so put in place some...interesting regulation. Much still exists. I've not done a comparison but I think Vegas casinos have more regulations on them.

2. My sentiment exactly.
I'll buy a single scratch-off every couple or three months just for fun. That's the extent of my "gambling". The odds always, always favor the house.

3. In Vegas you know the odds, you know the rules, it's more honest. nt
