it seems the US government is finding it difficult to fund itself. Also, seems the bond market has shunned the $700 billion bailout. Things are changing fast so you'll have to read that site if you want background.

and others have suggested it's as low as 5000.

What we do know is that equities have been overpriced for ten years.

The market will likely drop below the floor before it stabiliizes. It will only start to rise when institutional problems have been addressed.

9. I knew that was gonna happen when i looked at it a couple minutes

ago. The day chart wasn't showing much hesitation in its downward glide. I just look at Yahoo, so I'm a few minutes delayed in my info.

14. I spoke with my cousin a few weeks ago...

...he's been in banking for forever and is retiring at the end of the year. I asked him what was going to happen and he said the market was going to go down to 8000. I've never known him to be wrong in these situations.

I believe that the sooner it goes down to 8000 the sooner it will stabilize - we'll see.
