. . . at least those who I believe have been paying attention.

There are always folks who express support for the republican nominee based on whatever principles or interest they express. That advocacy is fine with me. That's what democracy is all about. They put their ideas and beliefs out there and expect their candidate to live up to that. We all do.

But, at this point in the election, those folks who express support for McCain/Palin are running the risk of endorsing the racist, hatemongering tactics the campaign has escalated in the last few weeks. It's a shame, but any discussion of support for McCain/Palin is now hopelessly linked to the intolerance and divisiveness of their appeal.

The McCain campaign has pulled the level of discourse in the campaign down into the gutter and the level of our own discourse with it. It will be up to our campaign to keep our opposition focused on the issues and try hard to refrain from labeling and characterizing our peers who support the republican ticket with the same type of demagoguery and bigotry that their republican candidates expect them to represent with their votes. But, that type of comity and respect is going to get harder and harder as their republican candidates work to define their opposition with their racist, bigoted attacks.

It's getting harder and harder to tolerate those folks who support that kind of campaign and that kind of candidate.

1. Randi Rhodes agrees
Since the last debate, actually, she's said, "Anyone who still takes John McCain seriously should not be taken seriously."

2. I find it difficult to have any respect for them
I respect their right to choose, but I do not respect their choice.

4. Yeah I have had it also, don't want to do business with them or let my parents have my son visit
for a week in summer anymore, it is a judgement thing. I no longer trust the judgement of anyone who supports those clowns.

5. most all of us have associations with supporters
. . . and the divisive tactics of the McCain camp are permeating the discourse in our community.

The good news is that these folks seem to be in a shrinking minority.

6. is he really playing it that much different than Hillary did in April?
Didn't some Obama supporters say this about Hillary's campaign, and didn't most Hillary supporters stick to their guns (and stay with their candidate)?

If you are promoting intolerance of McCain supporters, isn't that hatemongering?

Admittedly though, I am not paying that much attention to the campaign. Because I worked full time yesterday, all I saw was the Colbear Repor.

. . . but, I don't see the comparison at all between Hillary Clinton and McCain. I suspect, neither does Obama.

And, I'm just stating the obvious. It will take a lengthy distancing from the blatant bigotry of the McCain camp for a supporter to convince me that their own intentions are benign and ultimately unifying.
