28. Not really -- at least in my Mom's case.
She has heard on rightwing shows about Obama getting kickbacks of some kind. I've tried to track it down so I can shoot holes in the stories, but I can't find anything. But I do know 100% it's not racism on her part. Not given the color of our family.

2. Easy. He's black. Don't doubt it for a second, that's what it is...
even if THEY don't realize it yet. Some racism is very subtle, even within the person.

25. Right. Republicans and their twisted ideas and...
their larcenous sense of privilege and superiority scare the crap out of anyone with a rational mind. It's their "due" to be on the other end of that stick.

7. A coward dies a thousand deaths...
Bullies are bullies to hide the fact that deep down underneath their steady stream of pure old bullshit and bombast, they're afraid of everything and everybody.

If the GOP leadership hasn't done anything wrong, then what are they afraid of?

8. Not Happy Days In Freeperville...
These dead-enders were on the top of the world in 2000...they controlled the radio, teevee, internet and with their manchild and his thugs, took total control of the government. They were so damn sure they were totally right...the radio told them so and so did the "electorate". They enjoy a 6 year ride of ignorance...finally starting to realize boooosh screwed them when it was too late and their decrepid party began to collapse from its own arrogance and corruption.

The last two years have been a downhill slide into the worst fears in the wingnut world...none of their candidates survived the primaries and the mess created by booosh is so overwhelming they are realizing this election can't be stolen or won. The knives are coming out and so is the fear. Many had hoped Hillary would be the nominee and all the venom and hate would sweep her away, but it hasn't worked that way. Obama's too cool a customer to fall for their shit...and in return, they see one of their worst fears about to happen...a black man as President.

The fun will be watching the knives come out after the election as the GOOP blame game will be long and intense. Remember, these are people who loathe taking responsibility and it'll be fun to watch that demolition derby as the party totally implodes.

Cheers...

12. They are bullies who have been riding high with the bully party for the last 8 years.
Now they sense that the tide has turned and it's possible that they could get the living crap kicked out of them. Of course they won't, but it's OK if they think that.

16. Yeah, I have some RW relatives who say that.
It's partly fears about the possibility of his being a secret Muslim (or at least not connected to the Christian conservatives they know and love, which is nearly as bad), partly fears of his supposed liberalism, and partly (though they would never admit it) fear of his race. They all live in a bubble anyway, only listening to people that will tell them they're right. Years of exposure to that can really warp a person.

Personally, I can't see anything scarier than McCain/Palin.

27. because deep down
They know he's right, you couldn't get them to admit it, but they know it. And if they were honest, it's not him that is causing their fear, it's the final, shattering collapse of the belief system that was manufactured for them, ever since Saint Ronnie rose up on his white horse 28 years ago.

They have been told what to think by the right wing machine and that everything would be allright if they just kept the faith. Now reality has come knocking and they can no longer deny it. They have nowhere left to turn.....

I asked her what she was talking about, what Obama policy was she referring to and she just said she heard all about it on Faux. Can't convince her otherwise, she's deep into the kool aid.

36. Faux snooze, well that explains it.
 You know, I never thought that a hand up was a hand out. Why do people in this Country have such disdain for the less fortunate, when they could easily find themselves in the same predicament?

39. I don't get it either. My guess is that these people have been
brainwashed into believing that if someone less fortunate gets help, it somehow takes away from them.

My attitude is that a rising tide lifts all boats, the country as a whole will be better off as each segment of the population becomes better off (better education, better income, better healthcare, better living conditions).

They see it differently, as long as they have theirs, they don't give a damn about anyone else and don't want a penny of their tax dollars being used to help anyone else. Sad.

They say something like "Barack Hussein Obama???" as if you're supposed to jump out of your skin in fear.

It is because they fear that he is a secret muslim and they are very xenophobic. Nothing rational about it.
