Homeless Voters

by BooMan

It never fails to amaze me that the Republicans have such an aversion to seeing homeless people vote. What do you think happens to you when the bank forecloses on your home? You get an apartment if you can afford it, or you go live in Mommy's basement. Or, if you don't have any family, you are homeless. In an economy where foreclosures are through the roof, it stands to reason that there are a lot more homeless people than usual. According to Republicans, they should have no vote.

{editor's note, by Steven D} Adding my post to Booman's since the topics are related:

Another Economic Indicator

This one isn't about stocks or bonds or markets. It's about people dammit!

Despite a pledge by {Mass.} Governor Deval Patrick to end homelessness, the number of homeless people in the state is at a record high and likely to rise because of the mortgage crisis and continuing surge in foreclosures.

It's about the return of Tent Cities

RENO, Nev.—City officials have ordered homeless men to move out of a tent city on the edge of downtown Reno. By next week, all women must also vacate the encampment where as many as 160 people have lived since the beginning of summer.

It's not just an urban phenomenon either:

"Experts refer to the rural homeless as the hidden homeless," the plan states. "Rural areas such as northwestern Minnesota have extremely limited emergency shelter beds, which are often located beyond an accessible distance from those in need."

It will only get worse. Bet no one asks any questions about it at the debate, though.

5. Interesting that homelessness is now only about the muddleclass who've fallen down.
Too bad it wasn't reported DECADES ago.... and the REAL REASONS why...

The HOUSING CRISIS is nothing new.. it's just hit the muddleclass...

"It will only get worse. Bet no one asks any questions about it at the debate, though. "

Why would they? Where's the sense of urgency from the Dems?

Where is the outrage from the "progressives"?????

Where is the spirit of action from DUers?

Again, why would they bring it up at the debates?

6. bravo!
I WISH that someone would ask them how they intend to help these people who have lost jobs, homes, have become homeless and now have their rights (voting) stripped. That might stump wither one of them but I somehow think Obama would come up with something more intelligent and reasonable. I don't think McSame could ever put himself in these people's position.
