I am so sorry.
Edited on Tue Oct-07-08 04:25 PM by SoCalDem
I was just looking at my checkbook, and realized that we have not bought anything in two weeks..except for catlitter & a windshield wiper blade..

I am sorry for tanking the economy.. We plan to go out to dinner on Thursday..so expect the market to rise a bit on Friday..

What have YOU done to "tank the economy"..

What didn't you buy, that you "should have"..

It cannot be entirely MY fault.... c'mon, share the blame with me:)

1. I should have gone grocery shopping last Friday,
but I have managed to due with things currently in my pantry. By Thursday, I will have to go to the store or we will be eating saltines with instant pudding (just the powder - I won't have the other ingreds to actually turn it into pudding). So with your Thursday night dinner & my Thursday grocery shopping, we should be able to turn this boat around!

Great post!

2. I didn't buy any rotary nose-hair clippers at all.

And no clothes! I've (oh the shame) been buying shirts from THRIFT STORES (pretty good shirts, too. Nice ones. FRACTION of the price, and nicer-looking than the stupid things they have in stores these days).

Also, I've been buying less chocolate.

Also, I've been taking the bus to work. ARG.

I apologise unreservedly, even though my miniscule purchasing power would have very little effect on the economy even if I WAS interested in buying the over-priced crap that stuffs the shops these days (which I'm not).

Not only that, I bought a home that is close to where I work and even on the bus line. Despite these shamefully uncool signs of thrift, I have managed to hold my head up high.

6. Sorry I have tanked the economy big time!
I didn't remodel my Kitchen yet.

I didn't buy new cabinets, nor new countertops. I didn't buy a new oven, nor a new cooktop. I didn't buy a new floor, and of course, I haven't bought a new water heater either.

So, I've let a HUGE chunk of the economy slide.

Shame on me. ;-)

I suppose tomorrow I could go shopping and take the girl child to lunch. That will provide more jobs in China and create a need for more dishwashers. And, I certainly will make up for my shoe buying lapse. The Italians and the French will just love that, as well as the DSW. Should I send an update to George, let him know we are taking care of this little "crisis"?

we just bought a 24-roll pack, which are double rolls, so that's like 48 single rolls or 96 half-rolls. I'm not sure how that translates into yards, but I'd buy in before the bandwagon-jumpers do the math.

our homeless friend with diabetes got beat up at his shelter and they kicked him out because he was "involved" in a fight. So we put him up at a hotel since there aren't any other shelters with openings in the Phoenix east valley, bought him some dinner and some orange juice and crackers to carry with him just in case. :)

But what I didn't buy? A new writing chair. Shame on me! :)

34. OMG
I've been paying down my credit cards (and only have two left!) and only paying cash for gas and groceries. And I haven't even shopped for a flat screen HD TV. And, since we're dieting (12 Pounds! 700 Billion to go!) that's less groceries and less eating out - as well as less weight in the car - so a few more microns of gasoline not used, and that's on top of the intentional cut back in driving. That is, the gas stations run out of gas around here, and I'm not one to drive 30 miles to find gas... so it was the Gas Station's intent that I cut back - wasn't it?

We've all been really bad.

Edited on Tue Oct-07-08 05:58 PM by femmedem
Nonetheless, I had a bit of luxury: grocery shopping trip #1, dried apricots were $4 so I didn't buy them. I thought about them for days. Grocery shopping trip #2, at a different store, they were on sale for $1.49. So I bought 2. Hooray! It took the sting out of my austerity budget.

Today the house was 56 degrees when we woke up. I don't know anyone here in CT who has turned on their heat yet.

Last night we went to the pet store for rabbit food. We were struck by how warm it was. And we decided that if it gets too cold, we'll walk around the mall like the elderly, except for heat rather than exercise.

So I guess it's my fault, mainly. But because you're my friends, I'm advising you all to invest in black beans.

41. Well, I covered you this week I guess
I gave my son $40 so he could get back and forth to work last week and another $20 yesterday for the same purpose. I am single-handedly saving our economy and our refineries by filling up my car today too for the first time in two weeks.

I also went to the doctor today and made my $20 co-payment. Then there was the $35 for the scripts she wrote to take care of my problem.

I also spent $15 dollars taking my best friend out to lunch to give her a break from caring for her elderly and rather non compliant father.

I thought having popcorn for dinner a few night in a row would make the economy tank too, but as you can see, I just couldn't help myself. I did my part to save it all the same.

I'm going to have to put my bicycle up on blocks so I can boost the economy. And this religious stricture about not buying new clothes during the year of mourning for my father has got to really be hurting China. Does the money I spent at the farmer's market for locally grown organic produce help? I spend like a Republican on the best food money can buy. Just can't afford to support the local burrito shop any more though.

I tore up several credit card offers, even though I don't have enough cash to buy a winters supply of firewood.

66. No, it's my fault. 7 years ago I was contributing $60K into the tax kitty,
today I'm basically indigent and a drag on the economy.

Sorry.

67. I didn't buy the Seahawks tickets I've been lusting after
I'm weak, though, so I can pretty much say I'll probably be buying some before the end of the season. :scared:

It is a shame that I still carry to this day.

71. Well, I am doing a final shopping errand run today before winter sets in
although it was in the twenties last night, and there is still frost on the ground outside my window.

Once I add a few purchases today, I won't be buying ANYTHING until next April when the snows melt. Just paying for things I can't avoid yet, like utilities, phone bill, taxes, insurance, etc. Okay, minimal groceries every two months to supplement what is in the freezer and canned - milk and eggs pretty much is all we'll need. That is what my garden, my gleanings and farmer's markets and my beef cows are all about. Yeah, a lot of work during the year, but I can coast a bit during the winter because of it.

So whatever is going on in our economy by next Spring, I am definitely at fault for that.

72. I quit my job the week before the stock market tanked...
I should have known putting myself in my most vulnerable economic position in 12 years would result in a global economic meltdown x(

I had a job offer at the time and then the f*ckers rescinded it.

Have three months to find a job or I'll have to move back in with my parents. But not totally panicking yet... give me two more weeks.

73. I just came back from some errands. I went to Petsmart and with their $5 coupon
paid for catfood for 3 weeks and litter.. $51 which included the coupon.
At Rite Aid I bought nail files $1.29
and a few groceries at the A&P (didn't get all that I coveted)$26

I am painfully aware of the price of things and have reined myself in.
