Huge sandstorm. Must be seen.
If you've never experienced one, this is about as bad as it gets. I've been through a few, but none this menacing. Yes, it gets a little dark, and the sand stings. Not only have I been in them, I saw one from above. I was on top of a volcano and watched as one swept across the desert below.

7. I can't believe how dark it got - it was almost pitch black!
I went through a few while I lived in Phoenix, but it was never that dark - more just a reddish 50% dark. Amazing video!

15. In Sub Sahara Africa we had them all the time, but I spent most
my time 8,600 ft above sea level and the storms blew by on the flats by the Red Sea. One storm caught me when I was riding my motorcycle. I saw it coming, I thought I could make a dash and make it to shelter before it hit, but there was no way. I had to get off my bike, stuff my shirt into the air breather, and take shelter behind the bike.

It makes one feel very small.

10. We sometimes get sand/mud thunderstorms here in the UAE
double yuck! The water is never enough to take out all the sand in the air.

13. Sandstorms like that occasionally hit eastern Washington around the Horse Heavens and TriCities.
They're awful ... very, very fine sand and it gets into everything. If a house isn't built with "low energy" techniques (sealed and wrapped), the sand comes in around the windows and doors. The insides of cars get gritty and the sand works its way into knobs and switches - it's a maintenance chore to clean it out. Needless to say, air filters need changing immediately.
