Question about DU server overload and image display - would this help during debates?

I'm trying out a new dialup connection (moved from where I had high-speed wireless included to an apartment without). While it is s....l....o....w by comparison, it's better than nothing. I also turned off automatic image display in Firefox, and it turns out DU works very fast that way - pretty much like my old connection for the text.

I don't know much about how server traffic works. I know the sig photos, avatars, other icons gradually get turned off as DU traffic gets very high during debates and such. If many of us voluntarily turned off images during high traffic times, would that help the DU servers?

1. I think that the default Defcon levels that turn things like avatars and sigs off

already does that. I think the default acts as the voluntary turn off of the same, but it's worth a PM to Elad to find out for sure.

Maybe, if there's something that we end users could do to help the DU experience in times of high traffic, Admin will let us know upon request.
