Michigan Republicans FUME at McCain:"A general who has left the battlefield in middle of the fight!"
Michigan Republicans scrambled Friday to stanch potential damage to their election chances after Sen. John McCain's sudden decision to halt his presidential campaign, including TV advertising, in Michigan.

Some hoped McCain would resume campaigning in the state soon.

Others were downright mad.

"I don't know what McCain was thinking," fumed Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, a leading state Republican. "He's a general who left the battlefield in the middle of the fight.

"I'm disappointed in his behavior; he's thrown a lot of good Republican candidates under the bus."

1. It's like the point in Gettysburg where Pickett can't see his men in the smoke anymore
And he starts frantically yelling "I can't see my boys! I can't see what's happening to my boys!" just as the Union men really started putting the hurt on them. Sometimes, it just doesn't pay to give it *all* you've got. Of course, come Nov. 5th McCain will probably be staggering around in confusion and shock just like Mr. Pickett himself.
