Edited on Sat Oct-04-08 02:26 AM by rainbow4321
If this goes viral enough in TX they could be fucked, a TX size fucking at that..she blows thru town and uses the word Texas and LITTLE in the same sentence. A pretty damn condescending sentence, at that:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=7307954&mesg_id=7308990

"It is good to be visiting here in Alaska’s little sister state, Texas," she told the crowd.

NOTE: Apparently the Ft Worth Star Telegram HAD the quote on their blog, but scrubbed it clean:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=7307954&mesg_id=7308990

Just for that fucking snide remark, Palin, I hope TX's 34 EVs are the first ones that push Obama right OVER that 270 mark on Election Night.

1. The election will be over before the Blue Tide reaches even Illinois
There are enough eastern time-zone electoral votes to put it away early. As long as Sarah keeps gaffing away, it all over but the laughing.

3. True..and she already dissed the Eastern coast states in the debate
Are we sure she is not an Obama mole in the Mclame campaign? Cuz she is the gift that just keeps giving. "Here, you can have this state, and that state, and take this other one while you are at it"...

We don't have to say anything and she'll hang herself....and is imho. I moved to Texas Nov. '06 and I know that calling Texas 'little' in any sense, is not bright. Pathetic barb.

I don't think they'll take it seriously.

31. Are you REALLY interested in the Alamo?
I can refer you several books on the subject. And the subject probably contains several more unwritten doctoral dissertations.

Thinking about it, that is an interesting question. Write a query to "Texas Monthly" to see if they would like the article. My guess is you would receive a rejection letter, hand-delivered by an ill-tempered Texas Ranger. (law enforcement type, not ballplayer)

26. Alaska has not liked TX for a long time
Palin was being a bitch and she knew it. It was the Alaskan equiv. of TX's "bless your heart".
I remember reading back when it became news about her flying back from TX to AK (and thereby risking Trig's life), that there was a rivalry between the states, with AK really, really not liking TX, so there would be NO way in HELL that Trig would be born here.

I googled AK and TX and found this. It all dates back like 30 years:

http://www.barrypopik.com/index.php/new_york_city/entry/if_you_cut_alaska_in_half_texas_is_the_third_largest_state/

Alaska became the 49th state in the United States on January 3, 1959. Alaska’s great size meant that Texas was no longer the largest state in the United States—as Texans have long liked to brag.

Alaskans took Texans down even further: If Alaska were to be cut in two, Texas would be the third largest state! This Alaskan “put-down” began in 1958 and is still told by many Alaskans.

<snip>

25 November 1958, Ames (Iowa) Daily Tribune, pg. 4, col. 4:
Charlie Caven was telling the story this week of the Texan who was visiting in Alaska. As usual he was bragging about the virtues of his state. Finally one of the Alaskans had had enough. “Pipe down,” he growled, “or we’ll cut Alaska in half and make Texas the third biggest state.”

22 November 1959, Long Beach (CA) Independent-Press-Telegram, pg. C4, col. 1:
One member of the Baylor party here last week for the SC game was doing a bit of boasting about you-know-what when he was squelched with “careful, fellow, or we’ll cut Alaska in half and then Texas will be the THIRD largest state.”

<snip>

http://www.adn.com/opinion/story/499181.html
To update the old saying that if you cut Alaska in half, Texas would become the third largest state in the union, she suggested if you cut Alaska in half, New Jersey would become the third most corrupt state in the union. Ouch!

32. They probably won't ...

But ya never know.

Not being a native, I am continually amused by the viciousness with which some natives do in fact react to such things. I decided I needed to take a Texas history course, and I remarked to a classmate on the first day that the book seemed rather "thin," which it is as it doesn't go into much depth at all on the pre-republic period. I compared it to my Oklahoma history book from when I went to college in OK, which spent roughly a third of its pages on the pre-territory era.

He took this as an insult, a personal one. I started to apologize but decided not to bother.

30. San Antonio reporter slammed Palin's self-described "middle class"
http://www.woai.com/news/local/story.aspx?content_id=e524958d-d028-4e5c-8097-fe205cee3bab

SA news station had a reporter outside the building where Palin was holding a fundraiser. Towards the end she says that while Palin tried to portray herself as a long time middle class wife/family, that not many middle classers would be able to SEE her while in SA since the ticket prices ranged from $1,000 to $57,000.

20. I despise Palin...
...so please don't mistake this as some sort of defense of her attitude. The fact is, Texas is smaller than Alaska and considering the amount of grief those small-dicked, small-brained Texans have caused the rest of the union and the world, they should just keep their mouths shut and acknowledge that their inferiority complex is completely justified. Naturally after the election. Until then, I hope they rip Palin a new auxiliary anus, so to speak.

22. Alaska has more square mileage
But Texas has more citizens. 23.5 million citizens. Alaska has a population of less than one million. That is why they have 3 Electoral votes while Texas has 32.

Now you may resent our state because of Dubya but if Texas goes for Obama, he wins the presidency. Many don't believe me when I introduce that possibility but this year, more people voted in our Democratic primary than did in the whole 2004 General Election. Texas was once a solid Democratic state and it will be again. They woke a sleeping giant this year and it is starving for change.

23. I sure hope you are right.
It's not just W who bothers me about Texas but rather many of the policies that come from there. As Molly Ivins (whom I truly miss) noted; Texas is a top-notch incubator of crazy public policy schemes. I am from Florida originally and have also had to deal with a lot of the nonsense that some in Texas have to deal with, so you do have my sympathy. Perhaps it's just a 'Dixie' thing but it seems our two states embrace ignorance as if that were a virtue.

27. The situation in Galveston and Houston is the real threat to the GOP.
The good people there are P.O.'d, and it seems to me as if McCain and Palin are guilty by association to the mismanagement by GOP leadership in the wake of Hurricane Ike.

Electoral Vote now shows Texas to be weak for McCain, giving him a 9-point edge over Obama. McCain's Texas lead has been shrinking bit by bit, and if Obama has two more good debates, the Lone Star State could be dangerously in play.

Heckuva job, Bushie!

29. Alaska is a big state only in land area.
Texas probably has at least 10X the population. Alaska is the fourth smallest state, if you look at it that way. Fort Worth has more people than the state of Alaska. So the mayor of Fort Worth has about the same amount of responsibility as the governor of Alaska.
