No "Fair and Balanced" casting in the Bill Maher show tonight...No need to throw stuff at the TV
He had Alec Baldwin, Gary Shandling, Christiane Amanpour.

And Bob Woodward whose eyes are finally, slowly, beginning to stay open - though he can't make a commitment to take real solid stands.

Very frightening to me was the indication from Woodward, who was talking about new interviews for his present book with Bush and Hadley about why the "Surge" is working.

Working to me means mostly that it has reduced American casualties and a general reduction of violence.

He indicated it is because of new ways we have found to handle our attacks and the war, but he said he is not able to talk about the details for a couple of years, and that it may take decades to all be revealed.
He said that there are highly classified new kinds of operations that have been responsible for the improvements.

I want to share with you " my DU friends" that I am terrified.
I remember Fallujah in Nov. o6, and I know who **is in charge, and I know he is detached, probably mostly not sober, and according to Woodward turned the war over to Hadley to be conducted in his stead.

What are we doing to put the lid on the violence and slow down our casualties? We have almost no reporters there because it is too dangerous, and even if it were not, our Media sources would not report it. We are too busy with lipsticks on pigs, a flirty VP candidate, and our election.

There was great give and take on Maher's show, though, much hilarity.

Alec did a Sarah Palin impression on the fly, and Gary said: "I did not realize she was hot until you did that just now".

Watch it Monday night at 8 if you missed it tonight.
A little oasis of thought provocation and true fun in these our interesting times.

2. It was a good one tonight
I loved the line from Garry about Johnny Carson & Charo - truly a perfect description of Biden ignoring Winkie.

:)

4. surge is bullshit
They killed each other in Baghdad, until they were separated by sect, and there were not so many left to die. Then we started to pay them to stop fighting. There never were Al Quid there, not many anyway. I say it's time for the arabs and muslims in those countries to take over the situation and let us rebuild our economy.

6. They're probably using 'non-lethal' weapons.
And they aren't all that non-lethal, either. I worked with a guy who was really into that kind of stuff and even wrote a book on them. Anyway, Woodward is such a fucking tool.

9. Yeah, a newly invented 'non-lethal' weapon called a cashier's check
Woodward's atool with his cloak and dagger shit. They're paying protection money to the Awakening Councils, which is just a fancy name for the Sunni tribe leaders who were blowing our guys up for 4 years.

There's no "classified operation" other than a monthly funds transfer.

7. "classified operations" is a load of bullshit being spread by the military
to cover the obvious "secret operation:" The outright protection money paid to the Sahwa Councils. Woodward's trying to make it sound like they're sending in SEAL teams to ice Bad Hajji. In reality, they're sending Bad Hajji a monthly check to pay his people, and his people, in turn, don't set off the roadside bombs. What a joke.
