John Conyers held a hearing today that didn't get much attention. The Inspector General of the Department of Justice was before the House Judiciary Committee to elaborate on a report issued on the Attorney Firings.

As the questioning went on it because pretty clear that there is intention to go after Administration appointees who broke the law. This did not sound like bullshit and no one actually said it, but you could see them laying the groundwork for hearings to come in the spring after Bush is no longer there to protect the guilty.

Stay tuned.

3. Thanks for this. I've got to check C-SPAN's TV schedule
for the reruns, or at least watch online.

7. Bush can get away with it
It doesn't take much time to sign a stack of 100 or so pardons.

12. You can't pre-emptively pardon an unindicted person, can you?
That would be the best reason I can think of for just plugging along until January.

15. Ford did it
Ford pardoned Nixon for everything before Nixon was formally indicted.

21. I expect that if Bush tries it for Rove, Miers, Addington, and others it will go to the Court
I don't think he can do it and in fact I think if Nixon's pardon had been challenged the court would not have affirmed it. To this day I think the pardon was one of the best things Ford did. Nixon's crimes, if in sheer number if nothing else, are dwarfed by Bush's. In fact Nixon's crimes are dwarfed by Reagan's in both their national import and their numbers.

22. why do you say ford's pardon of nixon was a good thing?
Edited on Sat Oct-04-08 10:09 AM by tomp
curious, because i believe it was one of the worst acts in american history, in that it denied the people access to the understanding of the corruption of their own government.

18. How about the new President issuing signing statements
that nullify all of the former president's signing statements and pardons?

And unsealing Presidential records...?

I've been here emotionally many times before. HJC is doing their jobs. I am so grateful, I could cry. Even if it doesn't produce shit. At least they're putting energy into bringing down the Cheney Gang.

13. Political theatre, I believe they call it. Sound and fury signifying subpoenas that go unheeded.
Testimony by liars that will go unpunished.

And so on and so forth.
