Va. Senate---I heard Warner is up by a lot
If true that is a pickup of one already in the bag. Can anyone confirm?

1. Yeah, he's getting good numbers,
but that's because his opponent, Gilmore, is so universally loathed here in the Mr. Jefferson's Commonwealth.

It's also because Warner was a very successful Governor.
Warner is well respected even in conservative areas.

8. He was, while Gilmore pissed everyone off
He was the governor who announced the end of the personal property tax, and then people just stopped paying it, without the legislation having been passed.

He was death on a stick after that.

5. True - he's polling at 60% and has been for months -
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_senate_elections/virginia/election_2008_virginia_senate

"The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds former Democratic Governor Mark Warner’s with 60% of the vote and former Republican Governor Jim Gilmore with 34% (see crosstabs). That’s virtually identical to last month’s results and consistent with every other survey conducted on the race this year. Virginia is the most solid of all the likely Democratic gains in the Senate races this year."

6. it's been over in VA for months
and NM is also in the bag. Other races where dems will almost certainly win include CO, NH and AK OR and NC are looking good. There's no doubt we'll pick up at least 5.

9. Not so fast
Virginia, my beloved Commonwealth, is a tricky place, and the southern and western parts are very conservative. I'd like to think that we'll go blue, but it's hardly in the bag.

10. I may not be from Virginia but I've followed politics long enough
to know that it's over there and that Warner has it. I'm certainly not saying that Obama will win there, but yeah, Warner has it, and there's not a single political analyst on the right or left who doesn't recognize that.

11. Oh, you meant Warner has it?
I misunderstood. I thought you meant it was all over in VA for the whole Democratic slate. The ambiguity of your comment threw me.

Yes, Warner will take it, without question. Gilmore was an absurd candidate. I'm sure John Warner is laughing out loud about this one, even if he's being replaced by a Democrat.

My Senators are going to be Jim Webb and Mark Warner. Mark's our neighbor. Gonna be a seriously big party on election night in Old Town Alexandria.

13. We have something in common(wealth)!
I'm from the western part, Clifton Forge, and I'm happy to report that my family is still there, doing missionary work for the dems!

14. Nice country down there
Your family's not far from Charlottesville, one of my favorite places anywhere.

Your family's doing the work of the angels. Good for them!

Here in NoVa, we're rather blue; our fair little city of Alexandria is fondly referred to locally as "The People's Republic Of Alexandria." We're quite proud of that...................

15. Alexandria is great!
I got my nursing degree at GMU, so am familiar with NOVA. I had some great times there, but could do without the traffic!

17. It's much worse now........
Things that used to take an hour now take two.

But, it's still an absolutely wonderful place to live. Much cooler than Fairfax (joke, joke).

7. Hopefully Warner's huge lead will help Obama win Virginia. We may need it
if Ohio and etc. do not come through.
