1. I want to know what that mortgage company was thinking giving
a 30 year mortgage to woman her age. The fuckers.

Hopefully, she'll be okay.

5. One of those 'reverse mortgages' that old whatsisname keeps hawking
on TV - borrow enough money against the house to live well in your last few years, with the underlying thought that when you die the debt will be someone else's problem. Probably had no pension, no income except social security, had lived there for 35 years, the house was paid off, but couldn't afford to keep the lights and heat on and pay the property taxes. Never figured on not making the mortgage payment, however.

11. A reverse mortgage was my guess at first,
but why would she be "missing" payments?

7. Well the mortgage company wouldn't have been able to use age as a factor
In denying her loan. Discrimination on the basis of age is illegal. Even though it is unlikely she would live 30 years she still has to be considered like everyone else, assuming that her finances were in order, and she could afford the home.

According to the article it sounds like she took out a 45,000 loan at 6 % interest for 30 years. The article says her late husband purchased the home in 1970. So it sounds like she may have been forced to refinance with a second mortgage. The article says she missed several payments over the last couple of years. It is very sad that she was in that position to start with. Seems like the house should have been paid for when her husband dies, but obviously something went wrong somewhere.

10. And because English can never be confusing enough, Lent with a
capital "L" is that Christian calendar period of 40 days before Easter.

Are you sure you wouldn't be happier studying ancient Sanskrit??? LOL
