RIP New Deal
In the sickest irony of all, it is FDR's own party who killed it.

In the long string of black days in America that began in November of 2000, this day is as dark as any. I'm once again ashamed to be a Democrat.

1. I am more then that, I am very, extremely angry...I will not be voting for Obama
for sure now. He voted Yes so my vote is no.

:grr::grr:

and notified the campaign I won't be volunteering any more.

18. Oh for the love of god
if you really did then you really probably never supported him to begin with. People need to grow up and stop acting like children. I believe he did what he thought was best, and very possibly was misled by people who claimed this would fix everything.

16. I'm not in a swing state
so my vote doesn't matter anyways.

I had really been looking forward to voting for Barrack. Now I feel despondent. The young people that have been his biggest supporters are the ones who will suffer the most because of this.

17. Yeah, because the country will be way better off with McCain as President.
:eyes:

I'm voting for Obama because I put my country first.

2. The "opposition" party sure hasn't been opposing much lately.
They just seem to mostly go along and give the criminals in the White House whatever they want. And they tell us it's for our own good. That's what's truly terrifying.

10. Sure they have.
They have opposed making the rich pay for their own bailout.

They have opposed putting any real limits on CEO pay for those that benefit from the bailout.

They have opposed listening to their constituents.

But perhaps most importantly, they have opposed excise tax on children's wooden arrows.

If that last one isn't enough for you, I don't know what is. What do you have against children's wooden arrows anyway? ;)

3. How many votes for the Democratic candidates did this cost?
Enough to turn the elections in many, many districts. Do we see President Obama handcuffed by a divided Congress for the four years?

every "democrat" who voted for it will pay at the polls.

8. Indeed.
Aren't you one of those constantly excusing the DLCNEWBLUE corporatists because "their districts are so conservative"?

There are millions of them that are dissatisfied with the way things are, and were thinking of voting for a Democratic candidate out of desperation, who know see that (to them anyway) they were right all along and there is no difference.

15. and you're honoring its passing by withdrawing support for the democrat?
the new deal has been under seige since its inception, and with earnest since 1980.
doubling the payroll tax or repealing glass-steagall were far more insulting to fdr's legacy than this was.

in fact, this had very little to do with whatever was left of the new deal.

and CERTAINLY, your response of withdrawing support for the democrat, is completely inconsistent with any supposed support for the new deal.

you think mclame would do better? you think more republicans in the house and/or senate would do better? that's what fdr would want?

12. I am deeply diappointed in the way this has turned out..but I will not help McSame take the White
House. This is a disaster. I will not help make it a tragedy.
Obama still gets my vote.

Anyone see the shit-eating grin on Paulson's face after Bush signed the deal? Like the cat who caught the canary...

14. despair
700 billion could have paid for so much food, housing and medical care for the poor. Maybe we could have even afforded to send our kids to the state colleges our tax dollars paid for. Fuck us, I guess.

My apologies to all Nader fans.....you were right, I was wrong.

My hopes were dashed when the Democratic candidate voted FOR it.

I love the color GREEN.

22. Mourning with you
I really thought Nov 2006 would see the beginning of a change in attitude among the Dems. Instead it's been nothing but more of the same dismal cowardice and failure to act like an opposition party, with more of the same excuses offered to explain it all away. This bailout was the icing on the cake.

I hope the Dems win big this November -- the WH, and significant majorities in the House and Senate. It'll be very interesting to see what their failure to advance simple Democratic principles are blamed on then.
