4. Eh.
I went car shopping yesterday and the dealer wouldn't come down from MSRP for a 2008 model hybrid SUV.

They don't seem very desperate to me.

13. Hybrid vs Pickup...
I'd say it's selective desperation at least. :)

7. New car dealerships do not make that kind of profit when selling a new vehicle.
Read the fine print.

 It sounds very intriguing to me and also a bit desperate. I may go in and at least look at what they have. BTW they are a Ford Dealership.

10. Two words: Gas Guzzler.
Of course the poster upthread can't get a good price on a hybrid. Everybody wants them. Ask how much MPG that truck gets before you buy it. ;)

11. I mentioned that because I have worked with new and used car dealers...
Edited on Fri Oct-03-08 11:53 AM by Contrary1
There may be some sort of factory incentive involved to help the dealers move them.

Edit: Is Kendall the name of the dealership?

16. The Ford Ranger Pick Up gets about 28 MPG
Edited on Fri Oct-03-08 12:06 PM by Winterblues
Not Great but certainly not a Gas Guzzler.. I was looking at them last year and they were running from $28,000 to $32,000.. Fourteen thousand off of either of those makes for a pretty decent deal if a person either has the money or can get Credit.

27. 28 MPG? Realllly?
My 95 Ranger got 19 mpg new and when I sold it in it got 19 mpg w/120,000 miles.

I wonder where the extra 10 MPG comes from.... coasting down S.F. roads might do it :silly:

My 2002 SportTrac gets 19 mpg also, so I really just got a truck with more room.

28. Well it was more than a year ago when i was looking
and I see where one engine gets 26 MPG so I wasn't all that far off. I certainly wouldn't call it a Gas Guzzler no matter....

17. They have been desperate for a while now.
I got an offer for a 16000 euro KIA 'Ceed including a 4000 euro rebate without asking or pushing, 3 months ago.

This is the 7-year warranty European built new model. I really couldn't follow.

And I didn't buy it either.

18. Wow, nice deal!
This would be great for someone who HAS to have a pickup because of their line of work, like a rancher, construction contractor, etc.

My uncle runs a ranch where he breeds Llamas and Alpacas, he has an ancient F-250 that's about to croak on him. Where is this dealer if you don't mind me asking

Edited on Fri Oct-03-08 12:39 PM by TreasonousBastard
scribbled on the windows of the big pickups and $5,000 off on some minivans.

I suspect a lot of that's coming from his own pocket to get them off the lot, since the biggest factory rebate I've seen is $5,000 for the trucks.

On edit...

That's 10 grand off of a 45 grand sticker-- so, do you still need that truck for 35 grand?

23. Toyota just announced zero-percent financing
The Associated Press

Published: October 3, 2008

DETROIT - Toyota Motor Corp. has announced zero-percent financing on 11 models as it tries to woo would-be buyers sidelined by the consumer credit crunch.

The top Japanese automaker's U.S. division said Thursday in a news release that the incentives range from 36 to 60 months and are being offered on the Matrix, Corolla, Camry, RAV4, Highlander, FJ Cruiser, 4Runner, Sequoia, Sienna, Tacoma and Tundra.

Toyota Division General Manager Bob Carter says the automaker had the inventory of fuel-efficient models and the capacity to finance or lease them.

Toyota reported Wednesday that its U.S. sales dropped 32 percent last month. The automaker blamed overall economic conditions and a lack of consumer confidence.

26. The problem is not the Credit Crunch.. it's the Job Crunch....
People have no jobs,. If the real rate of un-employment is not at least 18%.. I'll eat my hat. (that counts people who have quit looking... people over 50 who are discriminated against, people whose benefits have run out... people who are under-employed, people working part-time)
