How did they ever come up with Alaska being the "Heartland of America"?

It is almost the polar opposite of being the "heartland". It seems with Republicans up is down and war is peace and givng the US treasury to the wealthy is Prosperity....Now the most remote and isolated state is the "Heartland"?????...:shrug:

...turned into deserts while the layers of Alaskan permafrost melt, it'll become the heartland by default. The lower 48 are going to look more like scrub desert than prime growing land.

Desertification also means countless acres of cracked mud and struggling weeds replacing tens of thousands of lakes and rivers and streams. Wildfires consume millions of acres of forests, brush, groundcover and weeds, laying the soil bare to the winds that carry away the top soil. Eventually, anything taller than a thistle is a tourist attraction.

And when humans set their minds on destruction, everything must go. So the land dies, the water evaporates and that wipes out the habitats of hundreds of species -- maybe a lot more -- who owned the place for millennia until humans screwed everything up.

All brains and no wisdom are not good characteristics in a species that says it wants to survive but acts suicidal. Things get pretty shaky once a species passes the failsafe point at which its weapons technology becomes deadly enough to kill themselves off many times over.

As a parting gesture, our insane warrior heroes will also turn the planet into a toxic cinder so, if they can't have it, nobody else can either. Nyah, nyah, nyah...
