Oh. Okay. There ya go.

Just cut back on frivilous spending to feed yourself and keep your house warm... and everything's golden.

1. I tried to come up with a proper response to this
But I'm not sure the words have been made to describe the vast stupidity involved in such a statement.

2. If you don't take into account what you spend, you have no money problems
and more americans die in car wrecks so bush's war does not matter.

7. What you "have to spend" is th key. Food and energy costs aren't really "optional"

10. Watch it! With statements like those...

... you're a prime candidate to be appointed to a job in the Cheney Administration.

I hear a lot of slots will be opening up soon.

:hi:

4. If the masses are cold and hungry
they won't have the energy to take back their government. I saw this firsthand while I was canvassing in NH before the election. Young couples with kids, both with double shifts, living from paycheck to paycheck, maxed out on credit, trying to keep body and soul together...they were too preoccupied to vote.

14. Welcome to KatrinAmerica. Operated, at a profit, by the "Heckuvva Job" Party.

I think you're exactly right. And what you describe has been the favored technique of despots everywhere: grind the people into submission.

But shhhhh... we're not supposed to say things like "fascism" or "tyranny" or "power-mad robber-barons who haven't learned a thing from history of they think we'll put up with this shit forever."

:D

of ignoramuses. Anyone that believes the REAL INFLATION RATE is in the low single digits must be sippin' on the government kool-aid.

16. And what really blows my mind is that they say this EVERY TIME.

Every time inflation numbers come out, some jackass gets on TV or in the papers and repeats that inanity.

Well, I don't have a degree in economics, but it seems to me that of food and energy prices have been going up just about continuously for a matter of years... well, they ought to figure into the big picture somehow, shouldn't they?

I swear, the interviews with some of these "expert analysts" should be aired with a laugh track.

21. Excellent idea for a short clip
"I swear, the interviews with some of these "expert analysts" should be aired with a laugh track."

I love it! Get the right clip, add a laugh track and a few real statistics, and/or testimonials and it could be very powerful ...

12. I'm not sure people know this was taken out of the figures.
Add that to a reasonable local economy in some parts of the US and people believe the gov. statistics. "What are people complaining about?" etc, etc. My hubby is one of these...yeah, but he hasn't been shopping consistently the past decade for food and doing the bills...so many people will be caught off guard on this one. I wonder what the real inflation rate is.

18. And other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Let's see, if I didn't have to drive to work, or put heat and food on my family, I could spend all the money I want at Wal*Mart and stimulate the economy. Never mind that my salary has basically been flat since 2001, and my spouse has been out of a job for the last year and a half. The economy is just peachy. And don't get me wrong, I'm glad to have a job, and would be the first to admit that things could be much much worse, I just get so frustrated when I hear how great things are.

If you don't count the killed and the crippled.

The unemployment rate is low if you don't count the people who have exhausted their unemployment compensation benefits and are no longer counted as unemployed.

It's called Fudgey math...the kind of math that Karl Rove has, but that Reagan invented years ago to cover up the fact that nobody had a job anymore...it used to be called conning folks, before that.
