that fact is going to make one party very ashamed sometime in the near to distant future.

1. I hated hearing Biden say that he didn't support gay marriage.
HATED it. I don't have that compromise bone in my body.

Guess that's part of why I voted for Kucinich.

3. I could be wrong, but I think Joe didn't explain his position well.
I believe Joe and Obama completely support civil, lawfully recognized unions. The question of marriage, as defined in a religious context, is up to the various religions to define. The point being, if you don't like the rules/dogma of a church's position on who can marry, you are free to choose a church that agrees with your beliefs.

4. But marriage is a legal term, as well.
That's what pisses me off. I was pleased to hear him come out in support of Constitutional rights of civil unions. That was good, but the total lack of support of gay marriage...didn't care for that.

10. But he never acutally mentioned civil unions, did he?
Unless I missed something there, he supported hospital visitation, property ownership, insurance, stuff like that, but unions never even came up. I was hoping it would, because if he had stated his support for civil unions, it would have drawn a clear contrast between them, as I assume she doesn't or can't support even that.

12. I think you're correct
I tried to listen closely, because I was watching with my son, who is gay. He very briefly used the word "religious" and I thought he could have explained it better.

5. So did I
But, you know what? We both know that neither Obama nor Biden honestly believes that.

They have to say that to get elected. I can bite down on that until the votes are in. Until then, it's just how this game is played.

15. Precisely
Thank you for noting the obvious.

Their stance just neutralized the issue and made it impossible for the Other Side to do anything about it.

Smart move, I'd say.

18. Is this an argument over religion v. government?
If we could take religion out of the argument, there wouldn't be an argument. Am I wrong?

19. Biden said that all benefits should be exactly the same as marriage but
"marriage" is between a man and woman.

So the word itself is the problem? Silly.

Not a great stance.

21. It is our public service
The GLBT community provides the one moment where Joe and Sarah and grining Gwen can all agree and be cozy against equality.
It must make all the straights feels so unified. No matter how much distance between the two candidates, they can agree that they are superior to my family, and grin at each other about it. Common ground with Sarah Palin. That alone should make everyone rethink their prejudices.
