Big 'negatives' knocked her off Kerry's list

WASHINGTON - Sen. Hillary Clinton's agents lobbied for her to be John Kerry's running mate in 2004, but she was crossed off the list as too radioactive, according to political sources and an upcoming book.

"A quiet round of polling helped guide the search. Hillary Clinton had high negatives - she would hurt the ticket," Democratic guru Bob Shrum writes in his memoir, "No Excuses: Concessions of a Serial Campaigner."

Clinton associates pressed Kerry to get her on the list of vice presidential candidates, well-informed sources confirmed to the Daily News.

"Her name was proactively put on the list," said one source.

2. this is what I've said all along
the repubs keep pushing her as the front runner, because they know it drives their base to vote. the question is - is it possible that we shouldn't care if she galvanizes their base, would she be able to drive 51% or so of the vote to secure the e.college?

I don't think so, although, I think she cannot be underestimated. I prefer one of our other top 5 and hope clark and gore get in.

3. Hillary should've tried PRO-ACTIVELY backing up Kerry on Tora Bora, Rumsfeld's firing
and attacking Bush's military decisions in Iraq - that would have put her closer to Kerry than to Bush as she and her husband positioned themselves in 2003 and 2004 before an election.

Had Hillary placed herself in those REAL leadership positions it would have shown her to be a more suitable running mate. Staying closer to Bush than to the Dem nominee isn't exactly a show of party loyalty or leadership, is it?

4. She still has high negatives and she's un-electable absent a 3rd party
