That bastard Andrew Carnegie!
True quote:

"I haven't used a public library in 50 years but have to pay for it through property taxes. Schools and universities have libraries that the students use so why do we really need a public library for the small percentage of people that use it compared to the general population at large? I have always maintained that the so called 'public' library should be under private and NOT public funding thereby allowing those that use it to support it. There is NOTHING about a public library OR a public school being FREE to ANYONE! We ALL pay for it on a continuous basis throughout our living lives! Thanks Mr. Carnegie, but NO THANKS!"

1. Oh, not another one.
They're a talkative bunch, aren't they, the people who get bent out of shape because tax dollars go to efforts and institutions that serve the community but haven't been screened to determine whether said projects conform exactly to the kvetcher's wishes. These are the people who complain about public funding for mass transit but don't have a problem with using roads and bridges funded by tax dollars, or who complain about paying tax dollars to schools that educate other people's children.

Then again, if the poster hasn't been to a public library in 50 years, that may well be why he's/she's so ticked off, and ignorant.

2. At least the kvetcher isn't on the library board
We had one of those in our town on the board, who said, "If I want a book, I go out and buy it." :eyes:

4. The level of self-absorption astounds me.
Is it narcissism? Social Darwinism? Misanthropy? Ignorance? Something even worse?
