Psst, Psst ... Guess what, the vote in the House tomorrow is far, far from a slam dunk ...
I've been watching the House Rules Committee meeting, and am now listening to Rep Kaptur ... all on CSPAN ... and, I gotta tell you folks, I see very little indication that "government by Dow" is having much impact on many Members in the House.

In fact, that 'pork' that got dumped into the Senate bill is providing more than a little cover for some whom voted yes in the House on the Monday.

The fact that 'regular order' is not being followed.

So, I suggest that we are in for more debate and Rep Kaptur is now definitely calling out the Treasury on the amount of our debt financed by foreign banks, particularly China and the mega-losses some of their banks have experienced because of the crash of Lehman.

Much more exciting and important to the future of America than watching Palin be dumb.

Peace,
Bob

12.  Reps. Peter DeFazio, Donna Edwards and Marcy Kaptur,
among others, have proposed a bill called the No Bailout Act. Needless to say according to credoaction.com the "House Leqdership has no intentions of letting the No Bailout Act come to a vote." http://act.credoaction.com/campaign/better_bailout/?r_by=1015-1649263-tBvkaCx&rc=confemail

26. Yes they have. And, irrespective of the fate of the cureent bill, I expect ALL of their ...
... specific interventions to be either legislated (when the law does not exist) or implemented and enforced (given how much of what they are urging is already LAW).

Thank you.

19. yahoo news says different: Wave of House converts jump aboard bailout bill
By JULIE HIRSCHFELD DAVIS, Associated Press Writer
27 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - A wave of House converts jumped aboard the $700 billion financial industry bailout Thursday on the eve of a make-or-break second vote, as lawmakers responded to an awakening among voters to the pain ahead of them if stability isn't restored to the tottering economy.

Black lawmakers said personal calls from Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama helped switch them from "no" to "yes." Republicans and Democrats alike said appeals from credit-starved small businessmen and the Senate's addition of $110 billion in tax breaks had persuaded them to drop their opposition.

27. Exactly as Obama must be doing. But, it goes much deeper.
Remember, it was Bush who sent the thugs to threaten Congress -- to do the brinkmanship diddy, big time.

Congress has not been knee-jerk in its response.

That is not just because of Pelosi and Reid's leadership. It has been because of Obama's.

The position the Dems now have Bush and the Republicans is better than any outcome we could have imagined two weeks ago.

A no vote tomorrow in the House, with the majority of no votes coming from Republicans would be devastating to not merely Bush, but McCain.

Pelosi is certainly skilled enough to have told the Dems that if the necessary number of Republican votes is not available then she will either not allow the vote or make it clear that she knows the Republicans do not support BUSH's 'bailout' and she is not going to urge her colleagues to save a failed administration's economic mis-management.

What happens when either no vote happens or the current version of the bill is defeated is only good for the Dems and Americans.

Congress will have to stay in session given the gravity of the situation - as brinks-man Paulson represented it.

Or, if in a day or two it becomes obvious it was brinkmanship but no moose, the Republicans get called out, less than a month before an election, as intentionally stoking fear and anxiety.

Bush painted his buddies in the House and Senate into a Pollock chaotic scene ... no one will want to attend the opening of that show.

Then again, I hang out mostly with younger people.

25. LOL

Though, seriously, I do not think most Americans, tonight, realize what could happen in the Congress tomorrow.

Nothing this past week is likely to compare to what will happen if either the Dem leadership decides not to bring the vote, because they know it will fail, or allow it to fail ...

Interesting times ahead .... as in historically interesting and we are living within it ....

I personally wish that they would look at other alternatives. there are other things that can be done, but it's as if they think that this is it. it's this or nothing!

34. Let's hope that this is true,
This bailout bill doesn't do anything except bail out the elite. In fact this bailout bill will lead to an economic crisis much worse than if we don't do anything at all.

37. UL - Since it is your thread, I will dare to ask a few dumb questions...
Didn't the $700 billion bail out bill pass the House yesterday? I know it passed the Senate and I thought it passed the House yesterday.

If it didn't pass yesterday, are they still planning on bringing to the House floor today? Or will they do that tomorrow or next week?
