Brad Sherman: Wall Street firms are having employees call members of Congress
Brad Sherman reports on the House floor tonight in his speech against the bailout that Wall Street firms are paying their employees to stop calling investors so they can call congressmen who oppose the bailout, diluting the strength of the opposition calls made by regular Americans from 20-1 to 3-1, hoping to convince these congressmen that America is in love with the bailout now.

1. Sherman Knows What's Up With The Bailout
He's been a breath of fresh air during this shitstorm. Sherman, along with Kucinich, Marcy Kaptur, and yes, even Ron Paul and a few other Republicans have still given me a tiny shred of hope that we have at least a few of our elected officials looking out for our best interest.

Kaptur is tearing it up on CSPAN right now.

2. Sherman on CSPAN NOW
Said many of those in Congress were told that there would even be Martial Law in America if they voted no.

Folks, we all need to be watching this.

5. Threatening Congressmen with martial law if they fail to vote a certain way is terrorism.
Whoever is spreading that message or originated that message should be behind bars.

7. Frightening indeed
but he did write his signing statement giving himself power. This is a naked power grab. I can't believe the Senate fell for this.

10. Again, this is not martial law in the context of military policing...
it is however, a rule used in the House of Representatives that gives House leadership the ability to control the passage/debate/voting on legislation in ways usually prevented by the rules of the House.

13. This falls in the category of a claim that I WANT to see the actual evidence for

:-)

It might fall in the worst case scenario if we have an economic collapse category as well, and they were told this in this vein.

"Look worst case the economy will collapse and will have to impose martial law in certain places to keep the social order."

I used to do those worst case analysis when planning for a disaster... and this may be one...

Either way... extraordinary claims and all that

9. Um, no, he doesn't mean that. It's a rule that's invoked on a bill
to make it pass faster, it gives the House Leadership more power to control debate and votes, instead of following the House of Reps rules.

It is NOT the same as martial law in the context of public safety/dictatorship, and does not imply the justice system will be suspended or something of that nature.

8. OMG! That's such crazy psycho bullshit...
Don't they have the ability to trace the calls? Caller ID?

No, Mr. Nutcase Sherman, real people are worried now because they've seen a mini-crash, and they don't want a real crash.
