"Question: Where would you rather vote? On a college campus with a large, well-lit, parking lot, low riser stairs at the poll entrance, an area inside the building for waiting in case of rain/snow, and a spacious gymnasium to accommodate extra voting stations — or a cramped building, with a poorly lit, tiny parking lot, steep stairs where some voters wait, while the remainder stand in a long line near a busy road with no shoulder.

If you picked "college campus" you would be wrong, according to the two Republican Chester County commissioners who denied a request last week from Lower Oxford East residents to move the polling place from its current location in a tumbledown former creamery/community building to a gymnasium at Lincoln University.

Residents presented hundreds of signatures from both Republicans and Democrats in favor of the move. During the video presentation outlining deficiencies, some audience members gasped at the condition of the current polling location. Yet the two Republican commissioners remained unmoved.

Lame excuses for the denial included: "Not enough time to move the polling place before the election," yet they approved two other poll moves without comment the morning of this same hearing."
