The link from the Detroit Free Press (it calls itself FREEP dot com) is an animation, not accessible to my dial-up impairment. It is distributed by Copley News Service. The quotation is from THOMPSON's blog.

Is he a DUer?!1

I've been wanting to do an animation on the mortgage meltdown for quite some time. Problem was, I didn't have a decent angle. So for a few weeks, I thought off and on about what angle I could take. I had almost given up, when I heard a radio commentator who was discussing the subprime mortgage mess jokingly blame the crisis on "the poor people's lobby. " A light immediately went off inside my head.

I had been hearing conservatives blame the mess on the Community Reinvestment Act and had done quite a bit of reading on the matter. Enough reading to know that while the CRA certainly was a contributing factor to the problem, it was a relatively small factor when compared to the other contributing factors.

Something's disturbingly wrong about blaming low-income people for the excesses of the rich and powerful.
