From the topics addressed in posts this morning, it would seem that DU has accepted the bailout
that the Senate has passed. The sound and fury raised over the last week has all but disappeared.

My conclusion is either (a) we all think that it is wonderful and were just whining earlier; (b) we do not think there is anything that can be done to derail it, or (c) our attention span is so brief that tonight's debate is the only thing we can think about.

Has the mood here changed about the bailout? Do people believe that the Senate version is actually better than the one rejected by the House and good enough to solve the problem?

Since the goal of almost all here is to see Obama and other Dems elected next month, what do people think will be the ultimate consequences of his and their actions on this? Is it a net gain or loss? Has it moved anyone (or anyone you know) to change their mind about whom they will vote for?

Final questions - what did your Senators do last night and what did your Representative do earlier and what do you think they will do now?

1. for me, its choice b)
I think it was a foregone conclusion, I wasn't happy about the deal in its entirety, but I don't think I can stop it, so I can't tear myself up worrying about it now

2. When I heard people I respect like Krugman, Obama and Warren
Buffet say that, although flawed, it needs to pass, I accepted it begrudgingly.

I don't think it till hurt the Dems this fall. Obama gave a good speech on it, and framed it in a way that this is a step, one of many and things will change as we go forward. I don't think it helped the Dems or hurt them, it was bipartisan.

Flip-floppers! Ha ha ha! Just joshin!

There was no way they weren't going to pass something, but $6 million for kid's wooden arrows? WTF?
Some news agency needs to list who put all these pork items in the bill and attach their names to them.
If any of you know, please respond.

7. no the bailout was wrong and just shows there is no change
in Washington or in the direction of the country and that it is business as usual and that it doesn't matter who you vote for because they are not for the people - Dennis Kucinch at least fights for the people. I am extremely disappointed in the vote and them giving away billions more on top of the other billions they gave away in the past week on the radar - they want war, they love the oil companies and no matter how much people cut back the the oil companies plan on keeping outrageous prices and they said they would cut production if necessary to keep prices high - so either everyone is a great con man and our congress critters are dumb or they are part of the con - right now they look like they are part of the con

8. Chuck & Hillary are very for the bailout...
I am still bugging Peter F*cking King about it. I am WAY more worried about runaway inflation than I am about credit availability..

10. Choice B here. But I did call my Rep this morning
and asked him to continue to push for a more progressive bill, to make Pelosi work for his vote rather than trying to get the votes she needs solely from the Republicans.

I don't think it will help or hurt Obama this fall, especially since both he and McCain voted for it. I think Pelosi will tack right to get bipartisan support in order to protect house Dems, but I think the country would be happier and healthier if she tacked left instead. She could pass that bill with more protection for homeowners and more contributions from the wealthy--but the votes would come overwhelmingly from Democrats. She's afraid Dems will lose seats in the fall if the bill isn't bipartisan--but

a. this bill is too important to politicize and

b. I think she's wrong: if she did this, the voters would cheer and more seats would go blue.

12. Still furious here....
and I'll take option (b). Save a very select few, I do not believe any of our representatives truly care about the people or what is best for them or the country. They care about two things: power and money, not necessarily in that order.

In answer to your last question, Stabenow voted against the bill last night, while Levin gave a Yes vote. To think...I've seriously disliked Stabenow in the past. I may have to reconsider.

Our representative, Mike Rogers (R), voted against the original bailout...though I am certain his vote was not based on any lofty concern for his constituents' wishes. :eyes:

But since when does that matter? It's already been defeated once, so they just wrote up a WORSE bill and it passed the Senate. They will keep writing these shitty bills until one of them passes and that's the end of it.

20. It's obvious they were just waiting us out.
We have go to our jobs, we have to take of our business. Screwing the American people is their full-time job, and when the first wave of resistance came, they just let it go. Because they knew by hook or by crook, the gold rush would be on for Wall Street.
