After WWII, for decades Germans in movies, TV, and fiction were portrayed as

at worst, sociopathic SOB's. At best, brainless buffoons like Klink and Schultz of Hogan's Heroes.

Wonder if Americans will be/are portrayed similarly....in other countries, that is?

1. We're already generally portrayed as loud, brash and lacking in nuance
...and Bush along with Karen Hughes has done a great deal to perpetuate that image.

I suppose we should all grow a certain style of facial hair or cultivate a particular hand gesture to help make the Americaness more identifiable...though as Dylan Moran says, you can ge3nerally tell if there's an American in the vicinity as "the voice does tend to carry"...

4. They already think of us as a nation of Jerry Lewis white people and Shaft black people
And don't goof on Klink and Schultz. They had big hearts.

5. They did. And sometimes I think Schultz was dumb like a fox.

After all, at least he stayed away from the Russian front. Well, they both did.

And sometimes it's smart to pretend not to be; look at Claudius in "I, Claudius." At work sometimes it certainly is.

8. recently on a music board I visit
the question was posed by a 'Murkin to Yurpeens as to why they bounce up and down, in unison, at concerts.

the reply from one member was : "because we're enjoying the music and not trying to balance a soda and nachos while playing on our cell phones."

made me larf and cringe at the same time.

9. Nothing new, read Graham Greene's, "The Quiet American"
The Brits have long viewed "the cousins" as semi-barbarians with a penchant for building big towers and even bigger bombs for knocking them flat. Americans also display a talent for coup d'etat and assassination, but little aptitude for long-term colonial administration.

Having despaired of mere guidance and instruction, our betters concluded that we can only be led by deception.
