We went from number 2 in 2006 to now 46 in jobs. 40k to be laid off this month.
PHOENIX -- The Valley may see a two-fold increase in the number of foreclosed homes within the next 90 days.
Currently, 20,812 Maricopa County homes are vacant and owned by the bank, and another 26,935 homes are on the brink of foreclosure, according to statistics from NetValueCentral.
Five ZIP codes in the west Valley -- 85037, 85033, 85326, 85379 and 84041 -- were especially hard hit.
James Wright lives in one of those ZIP codes. Two years ago, when the Wrights first moved into the neighborhood in the west valley, the wide streets were lined with big stucco homes, and children often played in a nearby park.

The increase from July's rate of 5.1 percent meant Arizona has now experienced six consecutive months of job losses compared with a year earlier, the state Commerce Department reported Thursday.
The higher rate for August stands in grim contrast to 2007 monthly rates that ranged between 3.6 percent and 4.2 percent and is the highest for the state since 5.6 percent in September 2003. The contrast would have been even sharper before some 2007 monthly rates were recalibrated upward by the department at year's end.
