Remember back in the spring when we debated health care issues?
Allow me a small rant. One of the kids at college needs to see a doctor. We have what McCain would probably call a Cadillac health insurance policy from my husband's employer. So I spent a day looking over the plan's web page to find doctors near my daughter who are on the plan. Most of the ones on the list either aren't with the plan any longer and/or aren't taking new patients. The two that are seeing new patients have no appointments until Thanksgiving!

Just a reminder - Obama's health care plan doesn't just cover the cost of getting health care but addresses a lot of the other problems with our system!

1. As an aside....I went to an upper crust university...pretty much had UHC there...
It was the campus medical office...somewhat small, but they stocked a shit load of pharms (they purchased in bulk) and had local doctors come in to fill up the shifts. You go in, show them your student body card, and you walk out with meds 15-30 minutes later. They handled just about everything there too, including small emergencies.

It was a small school, full of rich young republicans. Those who will never quite understand the plight of the poor, or those simply not fortunate enough to have health care. Its interesting that the elite are never denied access in any manner whatsoever, at any stage in their lives. And you expect them to ever understand, or go to bat for you?

Regarding your story....its sad that you have to find doctors that fit the plan. When Republicans talk about the bureaucrat between you and your health care, why do they miss that? Its utter bullshit....Even those covered do not have instant access often. And those without health care, as I was for years, good luck.

Today, in Canada, my wife woke up with a soar throat. We drove down to close by walk-in clinic (we could choose any we want), and within minutes she was being seen by a doctor and diagnosed with strep throat. We walked across to the pharmacy and purchased (since we do not have prescription care yet, and do not qualify for it for free economically) medicine for $17 CAN. I then, being proactive, went back to the doctor to get a strep culture done, which took, literally, under 5 minutes to collect my information and the sample (I have never been to this clinic before). So, in the end, a $300-$400 dollar day (or monthly premium for those covered), only cost us $17 bucks and under 25 minutes in all before we were back at our place. Where was the fucking bureaucrat?

Do you understand how it feels to know that you are not an accident away from bankruptcy? Do you understand how it feels to be?

People in the states have it ass-backwards regarding this. Something has to give, and quick, or people need to make it happen. I seriously doubt anything major will change, or the people will significantly address this (in any forceful manner).

2. Obama leaves private insurance in the game
Private insurance exists to drain the pool of health care dollars for their shareholders and away from actual care, and therefore we will never be able to afford a plan that allows that.

The good news is that we have a chance of pushing Obama toward real universal health care if we organize right after the election.

3. I find it amusing that so many Democrats complain that Obama leaves private insurers in
the plan while so many Republicans insist that he's taking us straight to socialized medicine!

4. Repukes call any government involvment at all "socialized medicine"
We can just call it non-insurance medicine. The bottom line is that universal care is absolutely unaffordable if subsidies to private insurance are continued.
