3. Plus..
I have yet to hear them explain the new accounting standards that will allow us to realize a profit from buying debt.

9. Maybe I should have said liabilities instead of debt.
A number of these derivative contracts are highly leveraged and unhedged. We'll pay $3000 for a Structured Bond and then down the line get hit with a $30,000 bill for the default swap.

5. They added "sweeteners"

to attract votes from the left and right in the House. But there are no substantive changes to the bailout itself. The Treasury Secretary is still given unprecedented and enormous power, the potential for billions in handouts to foreign banks remains, still no meaningful oversight, and still no meaningful controls on executive's pay (key word is meaningful).

Editing for spelling.

6. The FDIC increase was a very good change
I would be content if they just made that a separate bill itself because it's not really controversial, everybody should vote for it, and it would help with this problem. It isn't enough to solve the problem though.

10. I agree that it should be separate.
I think it's pretty common sense.

12. Obama made a great case for it
just by merely pointing out that it has never been adjusted for inflation.

7. It's loaded with pork
to include this:

SEC. 504. INCOME AVERAGING FOR AMOUNTS RECEIVED IN CONNECTION WITH THE EXXON VALDEZ LITIGATION <…>

(c) (1)…no portion of qualified settlement income received by a qualified taxpayer shall be treated as self-employed income.
(2)…no portion of qualified settlement income received by a qualified taxpayer shall be treated as wages.

FYI - this is for the citizens of the state of Alaska.

This bill is HUGE! - 452 pages:

I cannot figure out if they loaded it up so that the republicans would have to dump it or if the republicans loaded it up so Obama would sign it and then there is more earmark approval.
