Vatican condemns writings of Spanish theologian
http://english.pravda.ru/news/world/14-03-2007/88300-vatican-0

he Vatican on Wednesday condemned as "erroneous or dangerous" some of the writings of a well-known champion of liberation theology,

It was the first such move under the nearly two-year papacy of Pope Benedict XVI, who as Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger led the Vatican's crackdown on theologians judged to be perilously straying from Church doctrine.

The Vatican began building its case against the writings of Spanish Jesuit the Rev. Jon Sobrino in 2004, calling the procedure "urgent" because of the wide diffusion of his works in Latin America.

The judgment by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith "deals specifically with the works, not with the person," Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi told reporters.

It really shows the Vatican trying to put constraints on Latin America churches
Interesting Ratzinger has been opposed to liberation theology for a long time

1. So, is the Church seeking a schism with every western nation south of the Rio Grande?
Cuz I'm pretty sure that "Liberation Theology" is a lot
more popular there than Pope Ratzinger ever will be.

2. The Inquisition by any other name is still as sour.
It seems the Catholic Church is determined to push itself toward oblivion. So many catholics around the world feel that Mother Church is out of touch with their lives and their beliefs. This will only serve to deepen the schism. Birth control, celibacy, homosexuality and now liberation theology; the Church has made the wrong choice each time.

3. He should have made that archbishop who was murdered a
saint but he instead puts his friend through the Inquisition
