A good thing Canada doesn't murder its own citizens
Because then, maybe, 13 innocent people would be dead.

Why? Because the justice system can NEVER be perfect

On a typical case, he might have to decide whether a child had been shaken to death or accidentally fallen from a highchair.

....

For 24 years, Smith worked at Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children. In the hospital's pediatric forensic pathology unit, he conducted more than 1,000 child autopsies.

But Smith no longer practices pathology. An Ontario coroner's inquiry reviewed 45 child autopsies in which Smith had concluded the cause of death was either homicide or criminally suspicious.

The coroner's review found that Smith made questionable conclusions of foul play in 20 of the cases — 13 of which had resulted in criminal convictions. After the review's findings were made public in April 2007, Ontario's government ordered a public inquiry into the doctor's practices.

Capital punishment proponents have zero counter arguments to the absolute fact that any system of capital punishment leads to innocent people being murdered by their government. There is no debate. They're wrong, period.

It's a conservative "value" to be for the death penalty. Time for the all pro death penalty DUers to get their heads out of the sand. Just admit you're wrong and join the rest of us liberals. Only conservatives can't admit they're wrong.

2. Unfortunately, our current (and likely to be re-elected) Prime Minister is in favour of ...
is in favour of the death penalty, and has overturned the longstanding tradition of the government intervening on behalf of Canadians on US death rows.

Government didn't want to defend 'double murderer' - PM explains decision to stop trying to save Canadians from noose

From the article:

As of last Friday, the Department of Foreign Affairs was saying that Canada "does not support the death penalty" and that "it is the policy of the government of Canada to seek clemency, on humanitarian grounds, for Canadians sentenced to death in foreign countries." By Wednesday, the Conservative government had adopted a new policy: "We are not going to seek clemency in cases in democratic countries, like the United States, where there has been a fair trial."

I hope that as the US swings left with an Obama victory, Canada will follow suit, as we usually do.

3. this is one warped MoFo!
<snip>

Some have accused Smith of taking on a role larger than pathologist. The lawyer for Brenda Waudby said he was on a crusade and acted more like a prosecutor. Waudby was convicted in the murder of her daughter after Smith analyzed the case.

A pubic-like hair found on her daughter went missing during Smith's investigation. It was discovered he had kept the hair in his office before police found it five years later. In the end, Waudby's charges were dropped and the child's babysitter was convicted.

:wow:

and he had huge abandonment issues as well? The man needs a shrink.

I agree totally, one innocent death is too many.
