Aerial hunting ad - need donations to air ad during VP debate
Edited on Wed Oct-01-08 08:09 AM by Holly_Hobby
From email:

Thanks to supporters like you, more and more voters are learning about Governor Sarah Palin’s support for the brutal aerial killing of wolves. Since last Thursday, we have raised more than $130,000 of the $250,000 we need to air our powerful ad on Palin's record.

With the vice presidential debate tomorrow, we want to buy as much airtime as possible on television stations showing the debate. Please help us reach our goal of $250,000 and put the truth about Governor Palin’s brutal wolf-killing record in front of hundreds of thousands of undecided voters.

We know that airing this ad in key swing states around the only vice presidential debate could make the difference in this election, but we need your help now to raise the money we need to purchase airtime and place our ad.

Advertising time surrounding the debate is more expensive than our previous ad buys -- that's why our donation right now is so critical.

2. Good ad!
Disgusting "hunting" practice. There are alternatives...good, viable ones that are more humane and far more ethical.

And, yes, please get a new link without that personal info on it.

4. just a tip for information to add to your ad
The reason claimed for the aerial killing of wolves is that they are a predator species that is responsible for low moose numbers. 6000-8000 moose are killed each year in Alaska by hunters. If you do enough research you will find that wolves actually kill very few moose and that the largest threat to moose are the hunters and overpopulation. Every so often the Alaska Department of Fish and Game will suspend hunting of moose in areas with low populations and implement predatory controls such as killing wolves and bears. There are even hunters who have asked to be able to kill wolf pups inside their dens to control the wolf population. What happens during this suspension of hunting is the moose population explodes in the area and eventually leads to the state allowing antlerless hunting of moose, meaning, they allow the killing of young moose to bring the population back down to healthy levels. These population booms show that natural predators are not sufficient enough to control the moose population let alone reduce it.

I forget what area it was but I did some research on this awhile back and found that in a 500 square mile area where moose hunting was suspended the population doubled in 3 years to I believe it was about 2000 moose in the 500 square mile area. At the same time predatory controls reduced the wolf population in a 3000 square mile area including and around the 500 sq. mile area of suspended moose hunting from 47 to 11 and claimed that this reduction in wolves was the reason for the population of moose doubling in 3 years. A study over 6 months during this time in the 500 sq. mile area showed only one confirmed wolf kill of a moose.

Researching and adding information such as this to your ad may help get the message across that wolves are not the problem and that it is in reality over hunting of the moose that cause the cycle of low moose population numbers.
