8. Black monday in 1929 lost 22.6% in one day, so this is only 1/5th as bad. NT

This isn't bad yet, but we've got a long ways to go.

7. I was working as a temp in a small bank that day answering phones.
It was a weird and freaky day and I was just the phone-answering girl. I'll never forget how strange all the shirt & tie bank guys were acting.

10. That's the highest?
I am still baffled that people talk about the great economy in the 80s. I remember horrible interest rates, wage stagnation, no new industry, stock market crash, and then horrible unemployment into the 90s. I hope it doesn't get worse than that now.

9. Wasn't 1987 about 22%
508 points on a market that opened just over 2000.

11. I didn't know if that's the highest
one day drop. Looks like it. I think if we stay under 5%, maybe it won't get too bad.

12. However, while the dollar is falling, it is merely creeping down against the yen
a hundredth of a point at a time, instead of plunging two or three points in an hour as it has on past occasions.

Maybe people in other countries know things that we don't, such as the stock market has little to do with the real economy as experienced by ordinary people day to day.
