Word is that he was more disruptive than helpful, because people resented his using this as a publicity stunt.

After the debate, he came back to DC, just to hide out in his (Cindy's) elegant Rosslyn condo and go out to dinner at a very posh DC restaurant. Oh, and he visited his campaign headquarters around the corner from the condo. Never made it across the bridge to Capitol Hill.

Bush has no political capital left, so there's no way to armtwist successfully. He's the kiss of death to incumbents, and - praise the lord! - the people have inundated their representatives with objections to this fucking bill.

In all my years in DC, I don't ever recall seeing anything quite like this. President Fuckface tried to push more bullshit down the voters' throats one time too many.
