Palin Pretending
Does anyone think Palin is just pretending to not know about issues as a way to trip up Joe Biden? In my opinion Palin is pretending to be uninformed in the hope that Joe Biden will not take her seriously and then when they debate she be ablet hold her own and then Biden would be shocked that she knows things and Biden will look foolish.

I just do not think anyone running for office can be that uninformed. There was at least one person who, in the post about the SNL Palin/Couric skit, said that Tina Fey would have made a better Vice Presidential candidate. I think I could have answered the bailout question better than Palin. Therefore, I think Palin is just pretending.

2. I guessed you've missed the last 7 1/2 years with W. being in office and totally uninformed.

3. No--once your unfavorables go up and your reputation is damaged, it's
hard to undo that. No one would ever take the gamble of looking stupid just for the purposes of surprising everyone with brilliance in one debate.

And sometimes someone who talks like a dumbshit really IS a dumbshit.

6. I doubt it
After the GOP convention she was described as a "skilled politician", but that was based solely on her reading a speech from a teleprompter that George Bush's speechwriter wrote. Not a thing she's done since then could be described as "skilled". Still, I worry that Biden will go too easy on her, seeings as she's a dim-bulbed woman. No doubt she's got some "zingers" ready, and I hope he's got some as well.

7. Think about it...
They have kept her from doing interviews and talking to reporters. Do you think they would go to all that trouble for a 90 minute debate?

8. I don't think so
She'll definitely benefit from lowered expectations, but the interviews have been very damaging for the McCain campaign. I seriously doubt they would allow her to create an image of herself as bumbling, shallow and barely coherent on national television... TWICE!

Even a decent performance at the debates will not completely erase the Miss Teen South Carolina persona that the Gibson and Couric interviews have created. (Have you noticed that NO ONE with any cred at all even considers the Hannity interview?)

11. ITS A TRAP!!!

actually I wondered and dismissed the same thought...

What occurred to me is that if Tina Fey can do it, maybe she could in reverse-

Palin shows up to the debate without the accent and the idiocy- Shocker!

wont happen.

12. I doubt it. She has gotten so much bad press than some have even suggested
she step down. Maybe even before her debate!

I am adverse to calling people 'dumb.' I simply believe that people (who are not IQ-challenged, that is) are either ignorant (they choose to ignore particular issues) or have disabilities which make them appear to be a little slow on the uptake. For instance, I have never thought that President Bush was dumb. I think he has some kind of verbal dyslexia, coupled with a possible disinterest in various issues (but a desire for power or status). I don't think Palin is dumb, but perhaps she has been able to raise a family along with all the other things she has done (politics and business) by doing only what she needs to do. So perhaps she simply hasn't had the need to learn about foreign policy (nor maybe the time or inclination). Having said all this, I still don't want anywhere near Pennsylvania Ave.!

14. Lowering expectations is not the same as conceding ignorance.
Palin is conceding her ignorance on every major issue every time she addresses one.

That is not pretending. That's just plain ignorant! And easily recognizable too!

15. Nope, she's just like Bush.
Hoping to get by on her "charm." Republicans don't think you have to know anything to be president.

Biden is a basically modest guy, and he's going to prepare as if he were going up against Jack Kennedy.

16. You can't fake that.
She doesn't know shit from shinola.

When you look at the entire picture...from the body language, the facial expressions, the wandering eyes, the hesitations, and the stress quiver in her voice. Not to mention the actual answers, and the repetition. Those kind of theatrics are reserved for a top few. She isn't play acting this one. What you see is what you're getting.

Being CIC or VP is NOT something you can just sit down and take a class in, as the RNC is attempting to do. The RNC threw the dice, and lost.

18. This is a tinfoil hat question.
Just look in her eyes. There's nobody home, just a cretin with a rodent-like cunning who knows how to use her looks to get by. In Alaska it works but nationwide, the general consensus will be that she is two generations away from your average white trash.

19. That crossed my mind, too, because I saw the Alaskan gubernatorial debates.
I think she's actually pretty dense, but is able to memorize her lines, and, of course, she has a good stage presence. The coming debate will have a different structure, with 90 second answers and 2 min. followup. She can recite something close to what the answer should be for 90 seconds. It's the 2 min followup that will probably stump her, IF Ms. Ifill is sharp (which she is). I'm concerned that they're going to cheat with some type of earpiece. We'll know if her hair is down!
