What a LIE.
Real estate will NOT be coming back. Prices are still barely down 20% from the absurd bubble highs of 2006. Prices still have a long way to fall because HOUSES ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO COST SEVEN TIMES THE MEAN FAMILY INCOME.

"The taxpayer is in an enviable position," my ass!

Why is 90% of America so ignorant of long-term house price trends?

1. I know.....yet many gulp this buffet of bullshit down eagerly.
As Barbara Ehrenreich describes it, unrealistic positive thinking has wrecked the economy.

2. I bought an old house at a good price to live in
That was my priority, a place to live, not as an investment. Now my house is paid for, by actually living in it for more than five years.

3. House prices won't go up unless income goes up
and considering that the middle class has lived with stagnant or shrinking wages thankx to reaganomics & its successors, I'm not holding my breath.

4. Because they have forgotten how to do stuff...
society has told us that production based lives are worth less than sedentary, technology driven lives. Abject fear over the inability to produce anything past a TPS report and spreadsheets, coupled with the aggregate loss of knowledge on how to survive and grow their own food causes most to deny what is in front of them, and focus on what they understand and attempt to conserve their ideals.

5. You Gotta Live Somewhere
Housing prices were going through the roof, and rentals were drying up as the buildings were being sold off as condos.

Beyond the obvious speculative bubble, there has been increased demand for housing in the city and near transit.
That isn't going away.

7. Overall throughout the country real estate is in serous trouble
The big city real estate is doing better because that is where most of the jobs are, and because of gasoline costs. People can not afford to drive into the cities to work, they must live there.

The rest of the country's real estate market is in the dumpster.

6. true so very very true
I am back to where I was 28 years ago but at least I am still in the same house and it is probably worth the same as it was so long ago. At one time it was worth 10 times what I paid for it.
