Web exclusive: Local residents not happy with bailout plan

<snip>The eroding paycheck Lamie brings home has pushed him into debt, and that is something he said he'll remember at the ballot box. The life-long Republican said this will be the first year he votes for Democrats.

"My dollar doesn't go as far, and it seems like I'm deeper in debt," Lamie said. "I'm tired of the Republicans."

Kankakee resident Paul Sampson, 33, said he feels the upcoming presidential election will be pivotal to the economic health of the nation. He's putting his faith in Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.

"If he doesn't get in, it'll be a depression," Sampson said.

2. Remembering before Reaganomics
It pains me to realize that there is a sizable fraction of voters who have no memory of the economy before Republicans ran it into the ground. Sure, they know of Clinton's balancing the budget, but that was just an anomaly that he accomplished in spite of Newt, not because of him.

These voters have no idea that banks could be very dependable because they were regulated. They have no idea that mortgages were meant to be affordable, with low fixed interest rates for a long term. They have no idea that unions could negotiate employee benefit packages with management. They have no idea that "made in USA" was an indication of quality and durability.

I guess I give away my age by just knowing what it was once like.

3. "If he doesn't get in, it'll be a depression,"
Been saying that since 2002 actually. Knew the shit was going to hit the fan sooner or later. Reaganomics doesn't work for extended periods of time and cause more problems in repairing them than they are worth.

4. Add in some of my family members
Some of the most hard core republicans you've ever seen. Some are already going to vote for Obama, others are just willing to skip voting altogether.

It's going to be ugly for the republicans this year.
