Republicans are distraught about Palin and I'm worried....
Edited on Mon Sep-29-08 08:01 AM by gopbuster
Is anyone thinking the same thing I am?

I think they either used her or Mcain did screw up. Nevertheless, they have lowered the bar & divided their voters so much that all they have to do is pull her and insert Romney (financial genius in their mind)and the voters will go estatic just to be rid of Palin. They won't care at this point, anything to rally & win. You have to remember how Republicans think. They will look past the "Mcains judgment" thing.

Their strategy has been razzle dazzle game changing events

Maybe I'm just being paranoid

Anyone?

1. McCain didn't screw up-at least not on that
He didn't pick her, his owners did.

2. Palin's got the club-thumbers all worked up...
pulling her would deflate their campaign momentum from one side and perhaps strengthen it from the other, although overall rethugs weren't wild about Romeny, either.

3. No, pulling the VP candidate is a direct reflection...
on the judgement of the Presidential candidate. You don't get "do-overs" in Presidential politics.

4. There are lots of people who don't like Romney for various reasons.
I don't see them pulling Palin after McBush praised her so effusively yesterday either. I think you worry too much.

It would show how unreliable McCain's judgement is.

Romney has his own baggage.

how joe biden will be pulled off the dem ticket. neither palin or biden are going anywhere. and for pity's sake, this isn't about what the base of either party will do: we know that. it's about indies.

10. And This Would Effect The Elections How?
If Mittens was so popular, he would have won the nomination. He didn't. And my bets are there is still plenty of bad blood between Mittens and Gramps that neither would turn their backs on the other. Besides that, he'd drive the fundies away...they still have this thing about that magic underware he wears.

They're all but stuck with Grandma Barracuda...Gramps took the chance, and like many of his recent rolls of the dice, has come up box cars. It's too close to the election to make a change...any last moment switch would doom Gramps once and for all. They'll keep Palin in a very tight leash...hope there are enough low information voters to make a difference.

I think all the Evangelicals that Palin attracted would bail, for one thing.

I don't think they'll mess with the ticket.

18. You know, McCain's campaign has been the strangest campaign and craziest. He has
thrown hail mary's all through it.

1) Picking palin.

2) Basically doing away with the first night of the convention.

3) Suspending his campaign.

4) Trying to screw up the first debate and delay it then possibly delaying or canceling the VP debate. Then refusing to acknowledge or look at Obama at the debate.

I mean, look at everything he has thrown at Obama and nothing has stuck.

Edited on Mon Sep-29-08 09:07 AM by gateley
I can see this in a comedy -- the desperate candidate keeps trying these off-the-wall approaches, to no avail. Meanwhile, the 'good guy' sails through unscathed.

(EDIT to add: Kind of like the villains in HELP kept trying ridiculous stunts to get The Ring back from Ringo, if you ever saw the movie.)

If my stomach weren't in such a knot, I could better appreciate how absurd and painfully pitiful his actions are.

12. Romney's business experience is laying off workers, closing down
factories and moving jobs overseas for a consulting firm. This is a financial genius in the fucked up cheap labor conservative mind. . .

13. No, they might like to pull her off of the ticket but it really is too late now. First of all, you
would have that far-right-religious group that probably would revolt and you would have the problem of her name being on the ballot and people would have to write in a candidate, how would that work in FL? I mean to switch VP candidates at this point would be pretty much of a disaster. They are stuck with her regardless. However, in desperation, it does create some pretty crazy things.

32. Exactly. Who do you want to piss off?
Kick Palin off, and bring in Romney. Majorly pissed fundies.

However, Romney would make happy the greedy, money grubbing element of the party.

So you keep Palin, and piss of Wall Street.

Dump Palin, and you piss off your so called "values voters" aka religiously insane extremists.

They are in one hell of a shit hole, and I'm so loving it right now!

15. Romney would make more sense for them, but it's too late.
He's basically a fool, but Mittens does have a reputation for actually running things reasonably well, like the Olympics and the Massachusetts and such as. He might appear to be a "steady hand" with actual economics experience in these days of bailouts and economic collapse.

For various reasons already mentioned, though, they're stuck with the Church Lady, for better or for worse.

17. It's been clear to me, that Palin will not last...
There's no way in hell, that she's going the distance.

What do I know--but I imagine that she'll duck out for "personal reasons", but she
won't leave without making a heartfelt, sappy speech about the politics of hate
and the destructive nature of the 'liberal media.' She'll curry so much sympathy.

McCain will make it clear that she'll be a part of his administration---maybe Sec of Energy.

So, the Fundies will be outraged and upset--and whipped up more than ever--because the bad
liberals forced Saint Sarah out, and they'll still be on board because she'll still be a
part of the administration.

Enter, Mitt Romney--someone who is seen as having economic bona fides. So, they could gain
some Independents.

I also think the bailout is a coup to tether Democrats to Bush; and to help Republicans (especially
the neocons) distance themselves from Bush.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Republicans and McCain re-launch themselves as the politicians who
can carry America into the next economic boom, and through this disaster. Does anyone think
that Rove is just sitting on his hands, while the economy is front-and-center, and he watches
Obama run away with the election? Please.

Everything we're seeing now with the bailout is the set up--for when the Republicans wrestle away
economic cred from the Dems.

...but then again...what do I know?

The McCain campaign was anemic at best before they choose Sarah Palin, she brought the base to him. Do you realize what getting rid of her at this point would do?He would slip even farther than they already have. She's going nowhere, she's pretty much, pathetically, all they have left.

Have to go to work for a little, but I think even if they did pull the razzle dazzle I am optimistic we are going to outnumber.

Desperate times call for desperate actions.

Noticed someone posted asking "how many times is this going to posted?" I'm sorry, I didn't realize it had been, have been more focused on the bailout thing.

Thanks for everyones thoughts

29. I think you're a bit paranoid . . . pulling a VP candidate would be out-and-out disastrous
It's an admission of massive failure of judgment on the part of the presidential nominee, or an admission that you didn't do anything even approaching due diligence in the VP selection.

Either way, you're guaranteeing immediate crash and bleed-out for the campaign.

33. replacing Palin with Romney would destroy his support with the religious wing
and he can't win without that. Period.

Also, it would make him look wishy-washy and further highlight his less-than-competent judgment in picking Palin in the first place, which would hurt him with independents.

Of course, it's not going to happen anyway. But it would be great if it did.
