US House Republican Leader Says He Supports Deal On Bailout
By Jessica Holzer, OF DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- U.S. House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, on Sunday said he will support a bipartisan compromise hatched over the weekend on a huge rescue of the U.S. financial sector, after balking at an agreement reached earlier in the week.

Boehner said he now supports the plan, which the House could take up as soon as tomorrow, due to the addition of tough new protections for taxpayers.

The legislation would allow the government to purchase $700 billion in soured mortgage assets from ailing financial firms.

A measure requiring the U.S. president five years from now to implement a plan to recoup the government's losses would help to protect taxpayers, Boehner told reporters on Capitol Hill on Sunday.

"At the end of the day, there really aren't any taxpayer funds at risk here," he said.

1. I don't know. Sounds like there's a bridge involved, somehow.
Btw, could you fix your link? It's stretching the page WAAAAAAAAAAAAY out. Do you know how to do a text link? If not, hit "edit" on your post, then click on the "HTML lookup table" link that appears above the "subject" window, and there's real easy instructions on how to do it.

2. Buying Assets ==> Selling Assets....
Eventually what is bought will be sold and repugs have realized that if these assets are like most government assets (like state land, radio frequencies, mining rights etc.) that they will be sold on the cheap and that their rich friends will swoop in and make a killing eventually. Ergo--good plan!
