1. I don't know
but the rotting lettuce in my fridge makes me curious.

2. HEY I'VE GOT ROTTING LETTUCE TOO
Part of what prompted my question. I'm totally plant-powered so a lot of my diet revolves around fruits and veggies and I would save a buttload if I could keep things from spoiling as fast...

9. Thanks for the info!
:hi:

I was wondering if they worked as well as the green bags. I also want to try the cold cut bags and the cheese bags. :-)

4. I've had good luck with them.
I have a vegetable garden, so they come in even more handy. They are better on some things than others. Bananas are just ok, carrots tend to dry out, but for everything else so far they've been great.

8. I recently started using them
Edited on Sun Sep-28-08 10:05 PM by BattyDem
I love them! I bought bananas and mushrooms last week. Normally, both items would have to be used within 3-4 days. You know how it is - bananas get brown and soft; mushrooms get brown and develop a slightly moldy smell or a strong taste (or both).

Anyway, I put them in the bags and used the mushrooms 8 days after purchasing them ... and they were delicious! I think I could have left them in the bag for another couple of days and they still would have been fine. I bought more bananas than I needed (just to test the bags) and they were also fine after 8 days. They were slightly softer than I prefer, but they had no brown spots and were perfectly edible.

I also bought red peppers and put them in the bag for 5 days before using them. They were as firm as the day I bought them - no soft spots, no brown spots. There was no change in their appearance or quality, so I'm sure they would have survived in the bag for at least a few more days.

Honestly, I can't believe the bags worked as well as they did! :D

edited: I forgot to mention the peppers. :-)
