Soldier calls nasty bar beating a 'sneak attack'
A soldier honoured for his military valour in Afghanistan is wondering why strangers attacked and beat him in his hometown bar this past weekend.

"This wasn't two guys on the ice dropping gloves and going, 'OK, let's go'," Master Cpl. Collin Fitzgerald told CTV Ottawa on Tuesday.

"This was an attack -- a sneak attack. To blindside a guy ... and hit him with an object, there's something wrong."

Fitzgerald is well known in Morrisburg, Ont., a small town about an hour's drive south of Ottawa.

He says he'd been in the bar only about 20 minutes late Friday, visiting with a childhood friend who introduced him to people as a war hero, when he was suddenly struck from behind with some type of object. Four men jumped him and began beating on him.

1. How long, do you figure?
How long before this story jumps the border to be placed in some small town American bar, and the war hero is beaten up by dirty fucking hippies, to pass into immortal conservative lore as another example of how much libruls hate America?

5. Nope, just some braindead hockey player with a Napoleonic personality disorder
"Ontario Provincial Police have arrested 21-year-old Travis Baldwin, a Morrisburg resident and hockey player, and charged him with aggravated assault. An investigation is ongoing."

His family must be so proud, eh? ...

:spank:

3. Hmm. I saw this posted over at Free Republic too.
Presumably, freeper dumbshits seemed to think that some Canadian soldier getting attacked by a drunken Canadian hockey player somehow reflected badly on liberals. Personally, I can't see any reason to even post it. Drunken idiots frequently assault other people. Maybe this moron was pissed because his girlfriend was paying attention to the 'hero'.

Why do you think this is newsworthy? Is there some aspect of this that warrants discussion?

6. Well, OBVIOUSLY, if you attack a war hero you must be anti-war,
and if you are anti-war you must be a liberal, and if you are liberal you want Al Queda to win, thus -

Al Queda attacks in Canada!

7. Not necessarily ...
The 21 year old drunken hockey player just wanted to show the whole bar "who the REAL hero was" ... I wouldn't read too much into small town bars and a very few of their testosterone poisoned local patrons ... every little town's got a jerk like this one in it ... I'd bet the judge will NOT be surprised to be seeing his ugly mug again ...

11. It could be any reason for the fight
The guy might know the soldier and just didn't like him from previous encounters, from high school, maybe he hit on his girl friend, made a snide remark about his sister. He may had felt slighted by everyone and felt the need to prove himself. People are stupid especially young adults.

Personally, I don't believe that the hockey player went after the soldier because of his involvement in Afghanistan.

8. Yes, peaceniks are a violent lot.
I get tired of reading the headline "Pot-crazed Peaceniks Attack War Hero".

10. This is why I can't stand drunks.
They are always the most belligerent, violent, intolerable assholes around, and have a warped view of everything.

Who wants to bet the guy assaulting this vet was plastered?

If I never have to meet another brain-dead alcoholic ever again, I'll die happy.
