Disparity Between Pundits and Viewers Opinion of debate
Edited on Sat Sep-27-08 05:11 PM by louis c
<snip> Most pundits called the debate even, yet every poll, including Fox News focus group gave a wide edge to Obama. Why the disparity? <snip.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

11. I like this part. Obama did what he needed to do but got no credit for that.
But many pundits threw out the window what they, and others, had said beforehand, about Obama needing to appear presidential and seem expert on international matters. When he did just that in the debate, they suddenly forgot the importance they had placed on it beforehand.

But here's the key to the viewer/pundit disparity. It took awhile for McCain to build up to it but then he hammered it home near the end: Obama, he charged, lacked the "knowledge and experience" to be president.

Pundits highlighted that and said it was the key to McCain gaining at least a tie. But I didn't hear a single person on TV point out: McCain just picked Palin for vice president! How, then, could he make such a charge against Obama?

12. And what the hell is wrong with my home state, Washington?
http://www.surveyusa.com/index.php/2008/09/27/washington-states-independents-say-mccain-is-clear-winner-of-1st-presidential-debate/

Unless Washington "independents" refers to that heaping pile of techno-geeks who lean libertarian because they still believe that they will each become the next bill gates (I work with these people - puke!)

And who the hell is SurveyUSA anyway?

Me (FOUR WEEKS AGO):
In appointing Sarah Palin as his vice presidential running mate, John McCain has taken his trump card off the table...If (he) doesn’t realize that Palin takes away his best argument against Obama (too young and inexperienced) and strengthens Obama’s best arguments against him (too out of touch with social reality; too loyal to the neoconservative status quo), then (McCain) is grossly unqualified for the job of being in charge of the Free World.

But seriously, folks, there's a much simpler explanation: the corporate media trying to force-feed the public their own agenda: portraying Obama as not infinitely superior to McCain is their way of trying to keep the race close.
